It took you until the Oregon match to realize that? lol I stopped thinking about it in that debacle against Washington. But yeah, we have a few good recruits joining the team in the next couple of years. I think we will get back to the program we know and love. Lol what do you mean? Oregon was right after Washington. So you gave up hosting hope before Oregon set 1 instead of after? Cool. There's no question an Oregon win could have course-corrected, but it was not to be. MN had no room for error. In my mind, that Washington loss sealed the deal. Mind you, I am not a bracketology expert, I just did not expect an Oregon win after watching the Washington match.

Oregon was a bad match up for us, they do an amazing job with triple blocking and we had no answer for their middle. I wonder why we don’t do that too? I know this is normal in men’s volleyball but don’t we see it more in women’s?

He's not that old or anything, but he does seem closer to old-fashioned than cutting edge as far as strategy goes. Off-blocker covering tips and sharp cross is just the norm. Also if the triple block isn't absolutely stifling on a bad and/or predictable set, good attackers will be able to score against a libero not ready to defend that much floor. Z has matches where she goes off but I could also see her struggling to defend tips alone behind a triple block.

I stopped thinking about hosting … For the record, I think it’s “unlikely” to happen, but… Gopher ticket office is asking the premium seat holders to sign up for those seats, in case we host. (They aren’t asking us to pre-order for Regionals.)

I know this is normal in men’s volleyball but don’t we see it more in women’s? The issue was not triple blocking. We were maybe effectively triple blocked twice in that match. Our inability to pass, block, and play defense were the issues. Easily Shaffmaster, Minatee and Wucherer’s worst matches of the season and Wookie in particular was in rare form. The reason you don’t see the triple blocking more often is because very few outsides can hit hard cross at the women’s NCAA level, and you would need a laterally quick and tall outside for the block to have any impact. You’re better off having your outside planted in 4 or covering tips. Men’s game is different because any ball not touched by the block is 90% of the time going to be a kill.

Did people feel appreciated for fan appreciation night against Iowa? What does that even mean? Did Kristen give a thank you fans speech?

Good (better) for them, then! I assumed it was just premium, because in past years — when they haven’t asked anyone about tickets until the very last second, after it’s been determined that we’re hosting — the premium seat holders got asked even later than *that* (so much that I was wondering if I’d need to try and get chairbacks when my GopherScore rank came up). I’ve complained several time about it, and figured they finally corrected *that* issue… looks like they addressed more than that, though.

In between two sets, or maybe it was during a timeout, they showed a video of several members of the team thanking the fans. But that might be something that plays at all of their home games. Other than that, I don't recall anything related to fan appreciation.

But no one came anywhere near our seats - seemed that they stayed on the floor.
