ASU swept GCU Monday night in a fairly tight match, led by Cromartie with 13 kills, Cyr with 12. ASU now up to 19-2 on the season. Next up Arizona and then a week break until BYU.

Tough match where they didn't play their best, and not a lot went their way, but they gritted through to get a sweep. Great to see Cromartie have a night, she was often the go to when they needed a kill in a big moment. Rabelo didn't play much, but also came up clutch with a few key plays. More and more impressed with Covell with each week, very tough server that has gone on a few good runs. I'm glad they're working her in to get ready to take over setting full time next year. Certainly helps that Argentina is a very effective hitter when Covell is setting.

It feels like the time of year where they have to dig deep and grind. Middles will be interesting next year. I thought Hoku looked pretty good in the scrimmage last year as a freshman, before I knew the solution was Maddie transitioning to MB. Seems like she should be ready to contribute at a higher level. Then Wilgus seems to be a good recruit, but I wonder if JJ will be active again in the portal this year.

Interview with JJ airing now:
Edit after watching: shorter than I was hoping, and probably not anything you haven't heard before if you've been following JJ, but I'm just glad there's a slight uptick in coverage.

Hoping to see the Sun Devils host the first weekend of the tournament, which will require a Top 16 finish. Figstats (green) currently has ASU at #12, so they are well-positioned. These next 3 games (@byu, @utah, and Kansas) will be challenging, but the last six games should be easier. Taking 2 of 3 from that first group should assure a Top 16 seed. The Kansas match probably decides the Big XII championship. Let's pack the house for that match on Nov.6. ncaastats.figstats.net/volleyball-rpi.cgi

I'm very curious to see how far they would rise if they ran the table, which I think they have a pretty decent chance to do. The general assumption is that Kansas is the better team, but I think they'll be pretty evenly matched and having home court advantage we could potentially just crush them. Agreed, having a huge crowd Nov 6 would be awesome, I'll be there!

Good feature on Brynn: www.statepress.com/article/2024/10/volleyball-brynn-covell-profileShe is a very well rounded player. Great server, essentially plays as a DS, and I didn't realize she had been an OH through most of her youth, until switching to setter. Very invested in how this season plays out, hopefully with a deep tournament run, but I know as soon as the season is over, I am going to be very excited to see how things shape up next season!

Came here to say that I'm so happy for Savannah Kjolhede. Seems like she is playing her role well with the Sun Devils and now will finally get a chance to go to the NCAA tournament.
