I think badgerbreath is saying “pass” when he means “dig.” As an international opp, Smreck would be hidden in serve receive and would not pass, but she would play 3 back row rotations where she would have to defend. FWIW I think she projects as a middle internationally. Thank you. Yes, I was bring lazy. I was not anticipating her receiving serve, but she has to play BR as a RS internationally, unless you do some tricks with the libero. She really hasn’t shown the ability to do play BR yet. Certainly less than Rettke and Nelson before her. Maybe she will eventually, but we haven’t seen it. I think she projects as a middle under international rules, and as a RS under NCAA rules, but I do wonder if she will be perceived as too slow laterally as a MB internationally. When I get responses like the quoted one it helps me understand how scientists (like myself) can put people off by emphasizing jargon as opposed to understanding. I guess that happens in every walk of luife.

I’ve heard the code is going to be LANDFAIR, but it may end up being switched for Nebraska tickets at the last minute, depending on NIL.

I'm really interested to see what the trajectory of her pro career will be. She would have an extremely long way to be a high level 6-ro opp and im not sure if the lateral speed is there to be an elite MB. She can really destroy a 1 ball tho This is really what I was trying to ask. Offensively, I think she’’d be strong at either position. Defensively, we haven’t seen her show off the lateral agility needed by a pro middle, and I struggle to imagine her playing 3 rotations in the back row. I guess what I’m ultimately asking is, has any badger fan heard tell/hints that Smrek gets significant reps during practice blocking in the middle or playing 6 rotations? She'd be useful in the double-sub situation, but IDK that's enough to put her on a international roster

KVR for Canada doesn’t need a real backup anymore so taking Smrek as a dub sub opposite is super nice

Smrek will almost for sure me playing as a RS in the pros IMO, don’t forget she was the most efficient RS/MB in the NCAA last year and poses a huge block on the RS, helping to stop even more so in the pros, a big OH. Yes we have not seen her BR defense, but you can bet that Kelly and Co have been and will continue to train her BR as they know they know that’s likely her position long term wise, and she can have a much bigger impact as a RS than a MB in a game. Not many players her height can play RS as efficiently as she can (In and OOS). Even so, worst case wouldn’t you expect pro European coaches to train her in the BR? Even if that means developing for 1-2 years first, plenty of coaches do this. The ceiling is just too high to not develop her back row game.
