For the 2027 class how many scholarships will we have? I assume that the badgers will probably be looking to bring in a lib & a setter for that class while possibly recruiting an opposite if we don’t land Sarah Hickman? We’ll have 5 outsides, 4 middles, 3 setters, 3 libs, & 2 opps. Both opps are split position with Kymora Scott counting as a middle too & Addy Horner down for setter as well. If Charlie stays healthy and is durable from now till 27, the spare setters will need to be able to play DS like what Izzy did since they likely won't be getting lots of setting time with Charlie on the court. The other setters are Van Wie and Horner. I would think they would also continue to be RSs.

so now we have +6 scholarships to use? Seems like it, but I suspect the more immediate impact will be holding onto the current verbal commitments as other teams back up the trucks filled with NIL money.

"Other teams" in this case means Texas (I doubt Cook will be looking to the portal much). And "current verbal commitments" means Halle Thompson. But honestly, I don't think the level of poaching in volleyball will rise to basketball and football for quite some time, and will happen more in the transfer portal, so I don't see verbal commits going anywhere.

If I was a top P4 coach I would operate as if I still had 12 with flexibility of going to 14. IMO, if you have too many you just create an outflow of portal entries each year.

I don’t think it will make much of a difference to the badgers, except to make the program more attractive to backrow players.

So with the new roster limit & scholarship addition, our 2027 recruiting class looks like it would be made up of 3 athletes; ignoring any transfers

That seems a bit conservative to me; I'd think 16 - two of each position and 4 L/DS's - would be a good number to strive for. But you're not going to feel bad if you're short one year - keeping the classes even will be more important with big rosters. Part of what's causing the transfer craze is people who were supposed to be leaving staying for an extra year - with that gone, I think that transfers out will be manageable even with an overflow of talent, assuming the coach is forthright and treats their players well. But also, I don't think it's clear that programs that are way in the red are going to add the full allotment of scholarships. Even B1G schools, I wouldn't be surprised if some of them implement a policy of 14 or 16 scholarships behind the scenes. Or some kind of flexible plan - the coach has to average X scholarships a year but has flexibility in case they have the opportunity to go after a big name in the portal.

Just to be clear. The limit of 18 is just to roster size. There is no longer a limit to # of scholarships awarded below that number. Those scholarships may come with a pay package (or stipend) if the university/conference decides to opt in to revenue sharing. I imagine Title IX will still apply to scholarship allotments among programs. It may also apply to distributions of revenue sharing - though I'm less certain about that. That issue may involve more than just title IX compliance if there is federal legislation on equal pay for equal work, for example.
Only one shoe has dropped. How this plays out in terms of number of scholarships or pay packages offered to volleyball will depend on how universities and/or conferences decide to game this out. I suspect there will be a move to more uniformity, at least within conferences, to preserve competitive fairness and to prevent loss of programs.
A roster limit of 18 is actually more than the typical badger roster the last few years, so that barely affects the program.

Considering one of his posts from yesterday was from a hotel with a view of the Eiffel Tower... I'm guessing yes.
