Sideout percents by server for the year 2023 (lower number the better) Izzy: 0.545 Orzol: 0.515 GG: 0.458 MJ: 0.493 Franklin: 0.566 CC: 0.560 Boyer: 0.468 TTA: 0.570 (I deleted everyone with fewer than 50 attempts.) Welp, so so far Sheff's emphasis on serving has....made the team much worse on serving, even the returnees. I understand that injuries could hamper your ability to put heat on serves, but I hope this bears fruits at some point because so far the only thing it has done is backfire spectacularly. Losing Izzy and MJ hasn't helped either in that department. opponent quality contributes to this i imagine.

Besides getting a win, the good news from yesterday is that Orzol appears to be surviving the 'heavier' jumping load on her leg, and Smrek looked good, ready to go. There were plenty of lineup variations during the match (including a couple rotations of 6-2 in the 3rd set), but easily the most effective was Devyn and CC in the middle and Smrek at opposite. Is that where we start today's adventure? I suspect he will go with that in set 1, and see what happens. Actually the set 1 and 2 lineup worked well, until it didn’t in set 3. The set 4 and 5 lineup had much better blocking. There were a number of variations in the lineup in the first three sets, particularly between set 2 and set 3.

Well after that fifth set, Lola has that libero jersey locked up. Out there saving us on repeat.

I need a reporter to ask Sheff why is Anna Smrek on the bench because that's now 2 times we've came back with her back in. Tonight, there was practically no time to do it

I am baffled by no Smrek until so very late. At the least, it should have been slide Devyn to middle and Smrek at opposite for the 5th set.
Not that Booth did anything wrong, etc. but c'mon!!

Well after that fifth set, Lola has that libero jersey locked up. Out there saving us on repeat. I think I saw during one of the timeout huddles that Damrow has a brace on her knee, again. Poor kid...

I think during the last timeout Sheff asked Smrek if she was ok and she nodded yes. At least that’s the way I saw it and they are taking it easy with her. It seemed Robison was tired at the end.

Well after that fifth set, Lola has that libero jersey locked up. Out there saving us on repeat. It was pretty much inevitable anyways. The most dynamic of the 3. The highest upside. I think Saige is more talented. GG has been unable to shore up her weaknesses and is several games into her junior season. But yes her performance leaves no doubt any longer.

I don't know what Sheff is thinking re CC, Smrek and Dev, and I frankly don't know what he should do. What Sheff has said is that there will not be a set lineup this year. He's going to be moving Dev, CC and Smrek in and out.
But I at least feel like the back row is pretty much set, which is a huge relief. It will be easier on Charlie to have that settled. I still feel like Charlie's location in system leaves a little to be desired at times, but she is getting better.
I really feel that this match today should not have gone to 5 sets. The badgers play got really loosey goosey in the 3rd and let Baylor get some belief and momentum, which they took full advantage of. The fact that the badgers were able to reel it in against a very good team is excellent, but they need to keep shrinking those periods of loose play and making adjustments faster.
