Me thinks, you want to steal even more NE transfers Oh, that goes without saying. Quit recruiting so well and that would change. Mostly this is just an effort on my part to be a bit silly. Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated.

I mean I think it’s appropriate. Too light of a punishment gives privileged. Too harsh of one gives dramatic. Gotta find the right medium for someone who could have potentially harmed herself or others, resisted arrest, blew twice the legal limit, was in possession of a fake ID and brought bad press upon herself and her school/team. Hopefully the punishment isn’t too harsh but isn’t too light either. A DUI should lead to revoked scholarship. Would you be fired from your job?

Agree except the last part about scholarship cancelation. Are you a TX fan? Is there any precedent for a 1st offender, DUI or any nonviolent misdemeanor charge or conviction causing a cancelation of a scholarship, athletic or academic, at NE. I don't think so. It would be a very counterproductive policy to the rehabilitation of offending students. And NO, most people do not lose their job after a DUI. Worked for State Government for 30 years. In that time, 3 to 4 coworkers got DUI's, that I knew of. None were that youthful. Only one got fired, after multiple DUI convictions and he was sentenced to prison. Why would a 1st time offender be dealt with more harshly.

Hopefully the punishment isn’t too harsh but isn’t too light either. A DUI should lead to revoked scholarship. Would you be fired from your job? Just a sophomoric post. It is only at Nebraska where she will be forced to answer for her choices. As it stands now, she will most certainly lose some high profile NIL deals that she was in line for. She was B1G FOTY and set to become one of the faces of the program. The cost to Murray, on top of the legal consequences is going to be very high, if she stays. She will have to face her choice head-on in Lincoln. Frankly, I’m not sure she’ll still be here in August. But you want to take it further? Take her scholarship? Just how would that help? Who would that help? Let’s say Cook would say, “Harper, I”m sorry, you lose your scholarship.” Just what would happen? -my guess is she would announce she is transferring to Texas on May 2, with an enhanced NIL deal. It almost seems like the easiest less problematic option for Murray. It doesn’t answer or solve what happened last Thursday night, but it would allow her to escape paying any volleyball costs for her choices. Somehow that does seem in line with the 2024 “it’s not my fault” culture, but it seems removed from the person Murray has been since she committed here and her public persona since she got here. If she is going to grow as a person from this horrific choice, that will only occur in Lincoln. I hope she stays and I hope it all works out, but running her out of town because of this choice seems shortsighted and unproductive for everyone-and most certainly for Murray. I do hope this ends the all consuming “we’re so close, we all love each other” nonsense. Teams are made up of individual people, all with different secret lives. She does however, need to answer this question, to no one but herself, “why did I get in that vehicle and attempt to drive home?” There are few absolute taboos in this society, but drinking and driving, is one of them. There is no acceptable excuse for it. And in this case, it is even more unacceptable. And although this will ALWAYS and FOREVER be her responsibility, for her choices, I just can’t let go of, “what kind of friend(s) would allow her to drink such an excessive amount of alcohol and then watch her get into a vehicle and drive?“ Just what kind of ‘friends” does she have? Sounds like a bunch of clingers. Do better. I hope it all works out… 🏐

Sorry if this was already posted, but sharing Lincoln Arneal's recent article. Headline is Harper's DUI (about which I have nothing to say that hasn't been already said), but I thought this quote from Kelly was interesting: "It's something we've wanted to do since January since we lost because there have been signs of little cracks in our culture since that final match, and just when everyone goes home for break, they might forget about it, but they might not,” Hunter said. “There have been things that we have seen as a staff where there's trust that's broken, or there's relationships that might need a little bit of help from our end. We've been thinking about the culture piece for a long time and now is a great time to implement it.” Not surprising after a difficult loss and several transfers, I suppose. www.huskersillustrated.com/volleyball/stories/we-re-here-to-support-her-assistant-volleyball-coach-says-of-murray/article_5502d5cc-f787-11ee-8135-7b297fcaa641.html

Its super hard in such a competitive gym to have a happy positive culture. Not only are there top recruits every year, you have to worry about coaches' recruiting over you. It's totally human nature to see your teammates also be your competitors and a lack of wanting to get too close to anyone (who might be on their way out) or you'll be the one who has to leave. I don't know how a lot of the top programs can do it.

My daughter just saw Krause in the wine & spirits isle at HyVee. Hope this isn’t a pattern. Unfortunately these players are under a microscope.
