Has a player EVER transferred to Nebraska and didn't start their first season? Holman, Hord, Malloy, Sun, Robinson-Cook, Season, etc I went through the roster all the way to 2009 (got lazy after that) and can’t find a single one. Cook doesn’t seem to accept transfers as much, only ones he inows will make a huge impact Also anyone who doesn’t think Blackwell starts is insane. I think all three will get playing time, with them subbing in for each other if one struggles but I would be shocked if Blackwell isn’t in the starting lineup the first fall game What does that say for Landfair then, who sits? Krause or Murray?

I don't see any scenario outside of something really really bad happening to Harper Murray, where Krause would start over either of them. Big time players get recruited over all the time. It happens. It's the name of the game in primetime DI volleyball. She'll be the first outside off the bench for a very talented Nebraska team, and that's a very great spot to be in.

I'm hoping Harper continues to turn things around though. Also, I'm gonna keep rooting for Krause, and I think Cook knows this too, because Linda justifies why she's on the court almost every time she plays.

Expect close competition at OH and MB. Competition in the gym determines playing time. I don't like to speculate on the results. Just watch with interest. 2) The newbies will be at a disadvantage at the start of the season. Things could easily change as the season progresses. 3) As shown the last 2 years, injuries can play a big role. NE's quality depth in 24 could be a big deal. 4) Personally I would like to see more rotation in the line-up to accommodate all the talent. Many will disagree, want a more set line-up. 5) Should be a fun season for us fans as it unfolds.

How good was the setting at San Diego last season? I know they had Blossom the year before, and wonder if a drop-off in the quality of their setting was at least part of the reason they weren't as good in 2023. I ask this question because a lack of comparable setting between Nebraska and San Diego last season may prevent this from being an apples to apples comparison. The setting was not very good last year for San Diego, but they also lost alot of firepower from the previous year. Leyla has a very strong overall game and I am excited to see what she does in Husker red with a better supporting cast and Bergen setting her. I expect all 3 middles to play alot depending on matchups and opponents. Also, there will be nagging injuries to manage, so good to have 3 middles you can count on. Roster management is more important than ever in this portal era. Yeah totally agree. I think Leyla’a production will be more similar/better than her 2022 season numbers with Bergen. She has a lot of power and Range that Rebekah just lacks, in my opinion.

However, Cook has shown that he prefers to go with a set lineup. I do expect to see a lot of experimentation during the first 4 or 5 games though. For example, last year Mendelson was the starting MB2 for the first game against Utah State. All three of the MB's rotated starting duties that first weekend until Cook eventually settled in on Allick and Jackson as the starters. I expect we will see the same thing this year. My guess is Murray will start at one OH position, and Krause and Landfair will duke it out for the other. I think Landfair will ultimately win that battle. I watched most of the beach matches, the spring game, and the top-secret Kansas State scrimmage video ( ) so I feel confident in saying I don't see any scenario where either of the freshman are starting this year, barring an extreme outbreak of injuries.

I just saw a great pic in the Oregon thread. Apparently, they played a scrimmage against Oregon alumni, including some great players like Nuneviller and Gonzales, amongst others. I would love to see Nebraska do that. Wouldn't it be great to see Larson, Stivrins, Foecke and others wearing a Nebraska uniform again playing a scrimmage against the varsity team? I would pay a lot of money to see that, and I suspect a lot of other people would too.

Maybe someone with a better recollection of the 90s could confirm if we've ever fielded a full team of alumni for that match? That seems familiar, but maybe I'm thinking of another team?
