Safi appears out tonight and Erin Curtis is playing OH... Also, Carson Overbeck is dressed as a libero, too, and I have no clue why. She's not even close to our second best L/DS.

I really do not understand Mike Schall and co.'s coaching abilities when it comes to adjusting rotations. Last year when we had injuries, instead of playing Safi on the RS, he played a lefty setter as a hitter... or didn't play Shea there.
Tonight, with Safi out, instead of putting Foster back at O2, he puts in Erin Curtis. Foster can fill in at 02 and you can play Swift in the middle and move Engelbrecht on the RS. Or play a three-middle system where Swift can run slides and at least block. I really don't get this...

I am a firm believer in keeping it as normal as possible, if possible. UNC wins 3-1 and Curtis played very well.

He is truly developing a team culture, it seems. P.S. we won!

Curtis did well....she started of slow bit I expect that.
Curtis and Safi are complimentary amd offer different things.
Safi gives you terminal swings at a high rate.
Curtis gives you way better ball control and it more of a smarter shot hitter.
Glad to see her do well.
However, we need Safi's athleticism on Sunday.

Coaching staff think that she needed a year of improving and growing. Could not redshirt her last year bc of being too thin in middle. Also hearing Yardimici is applying for medical redshirting. Was not original plan but she was beat out by Emani/Chelsea. They believe she can be very important next year once she gets used to our system. Both of these are unconfirmed but would not be surprising since we lose a middle and lose a RS.

With Safi out, Curtis played well in her first start. Think Schall considers playing Curtis more?

With Safi out, Curtis played well in her first start. Think Schall considers playing Curtis more? I think Curtis will see more time if a pin is struggling. Her ball control is really good. IMO she was an underrated prospect. Good arm, shotty, with good passing. I think in some of the remaining matches we prob stick with Safi/Mabrey since we MUST beat Cal, Virginia, Clemson. I can see her serving and playing back row if needed for a pin. Mike and CO will def go after an OH in the portal but I think that Curtis and Malone (Malone is as fiery as Mabrey) are going to battle it out for that OH position. Safi undoubetedly will be our go-to next year.

While I agreed the majority of the points made regarding these two athletes. By being passionate armchair coach about the team's performance and strategy; I believe consistent ball control is crucial for effective plays and reducing pressure on the pins. I need to ask what Safi’s athleticism does for the team. She has difficulty in serve receive, leading the team in recorded receive errors by a wide margin which forces us to an OOS play the bulk of the time I have asked before and again my question at this point is why do we need Safi in any serve receive? Defensively she can demonstrate some of those same passing issues. She, however, can deliver terminal swings occasionally if she can hit around or through a bigger block. Terminal swings are great but a season average of .103 does not show overall terminal. This rant aside, she would have been the only choice for an OH as there was not another choice available with Yardimici‘s injury. Acknowledging changing the rotation now could ruin the team’s overall synchronicity. My hope is we can find solid 6 ro hitters in the portal or help existing players develop to be more solid.

I think we all agree our passing needs a lot of work from our pins. However, can you imagine where this team would be without the offensive numbers Safi has put up? We would not have won several matches without her offense. We beat Michigan, FSU, Miami, Virginia all because of huge performances offensively. She also kept us in the GA Tech Game that we should have won. No duoubt her passing needs work, but she brings energy we lack at times and When she swings I trust she is putting a ball away. Now, I am on the camp that it may be a good option to put Julia back row for her to stabilize passing. Curtis is what you describe...she is a solid passer and has way better ball control. However, her offense needs to develop more against better teams than ND to be effective in the ACC. Malone (incoming freshman) is an okay passer but is more of the dynamic attacker. I am sure we get an OH in the portal. The coaches know we need better ball control so I am confident we will be fine on the pins the next few years. My main concern next year is with who do we get as a setter to run a 6-2 with Zoe?

There is always a balance between termination and ball control, which is more important. Significant deficits in either is a major problem. Curtis is young and not the athletic pin everyone wants, but would like to see her play against better competition to see if she can be effective. Of course, if she get PT, then there is a problem with a current pin, which isn't great news.
