I posted this over in the jobs thread but thought I'd double up here on the team page: Dan and Coley Pawlikowski appear to be moving on (Coley announced her new job on IG), opening up an assistant coach and DOVO position for the volleyball program. Its a little disappointing to see the pair depart after just two years, but I wish them well in their new ventures. I'm hopeful Coach Virtue can land a talented assistant to help recruit and run the offense in this quickly evolving arena of college athletics. Hey look, space for Allison!

I wouldn't be terribly surprised if she took on a grad assistant role next year but I selfishly hope that she will play one more season.

Noticed that coach Virtue didn't include Allison Jacobs or Maddi Cuchran in her congratulatory post for the seniors on Instagram. They also weren't included in the graphic on B1G+. Hoping this means they both come back for one more year (especially Jacobs).

Love this for them! Sucks how Michigan’s season was derailed by Jacobs’s injury, but hoping they make the tournament next year!

7-8 wins will be a minor miracle. Do you believe in miracles? YES!

Okay, first lets not get too worked over this one, it was an EXHIBITION match. But still...yikes! [b I don’t care what happened today I have Michigan no better than 15 in the Big Ten I'm collecting receipts here on Small Business Saturday...

2024 Michigan post-mortem:
18-13; 8-12 B1G (T-10) Expectations entering Erin Virtue's second season at the helm of Michigan volleyball were pretty low after a really rough transition year where Michigan posted its worst record in the rally scoring era. Things couldn't have gotten worse, so improvement was expected. After an encouraging opening exhibition match against Pitt and a soft non-conference schedule, Michigan had already exceeded their 2023 win total heading into conference play.
The team was close to breaking into the tournament conversation a couple of times, but tough 5 set losses at UNC and USC kept them just outside the bubble at the season mid point. After a 6-4 start in Big Ten play, the team finished 2-8 the rest of the way. The difference? Allison Jacobs injury early in the Penn State match. Jacobs had been Michigan's shining star, leading the team in points and providing stability in serve receive. But the team was clearly too dependent on her and no one could really step up to fill the hole she left. So it was a pretty miserable end to the season, with a couple of embarrassing performances along the way (@ MSU with the State Pride trophy on the line was especially painful to watch). Jacobs returned at less than 100% to play back row the last few matches, but it was too little, too late.
Season highlights included a home sweep of Washington, a 5-set road win against UCLA, and taking sets off of both Nebraska and Wisconsin. In addition to Jacobs, Valentina Vaulet's 63 service aces were the most recorded by a Michigan player since 1986; Morgan Burke passed the 1,000 assist mark; and Jacque Boney ended her career Top 15 all time in blocks.
I'll post the 2025 preview sometime after the tournament is over, there are many areas of continued development and improvement needed. Go Blue!

Zuzanna was also a bright spot with eleventy billion blocks and aces, too. (if only she went to UM...)
