Eh. During an Olympic year it was clear that a lot of federations (especially ones that already qualified for the olympics) weren’t taking VNL results that seriously. I mean just look at Serbia. And maybe that was the right move tbh. For the USA the VNL was an Olympic tryout - and with the depth we had at OH and Setter, with pros/cons to each athlete, it was going to be a coin toss for who made it. We know that both Poulter and Plummer can deliver if they are healthy and confident in their play. Using this time to make sure that is the case is probably ideal. And if they aren’t healthy/confident and it truly becomes crunch time then that’s what alternates are for. These are elite athletes, several of them gold medalists. They know what they’re doing and they know their bodies. I’m not worried yet. I mean, sure, Serbia didn't take it seriously. But the USA did, which makes poor performance of certain players (e.g. Plummer) even more alarming. yea lol like the USA tried to win but they sucked lol

i really can't comprehend that a not-so-healthy poulter is still the choice over Hancock, who they pretty much rode the entire year last year (yes, bit of meltdown on Semis etc.) plus she can chase after the ball! They rode her last year cuz Carlini was injured early on. The whole thing is a mess.

I suspect that Poulter and Plummer are both being rested. We want them 100% for Paris. Unlike the men, who sent an entirely different team week 1 of VNL to rest the Olympians, the USA women have been playing a pretty brutal schedule that for some went directly from club to NT season. There’s still a few weeks until the Olympics. Give them a few weeks off (starting from the end of VNLs when they left early) to rehab, boost spirits after a tough tournament, and then start intensive training a week or so from now. Rest is so important, and I’d like to think USAV/Karch understands that it may be the key to winning a medal. If in a week or two from now they’re still on the sidelines that’s when I’d start hitting the panic button tbh. Rest is important, but so is rust.

She should be on the Olympic roster, period, no asterisks.

The thought process is looking like they won tournaments and gold with Poulter, while whoever set the last couple years hasn’t won squat (with the exception of Hilley @ NORCECA). Not saying that’s the right train of thought….but this Olympics is seeming more & more like a run-back of Tokyo regardless of all the signs that that won’t be good enough this time.
