Thanks! I thought I'd looked there, but it must have been "2024 Paris Olympics Board" instead. Didn't realize they were nested.

Sharing an article written by Dennis Punzel and Aaron Ferguson badgerextra.com/sports/volleyball/usa-volleyball-lauren-carlini-injury-alternate/article_d0aa57f4-4f39-11ef-bf03-df459956056d.html#tracking-source=home-trending“Setter Lauren Carlini was moved off the roster and to an alternate for Micha Hancock ahead of Wednesday's group stage match against Serbia, which the Americans won 25-17, 25-20, 20-25, 14-25, 17-15. Wisconsin coach Kelly Sheffield told BadgerExtra that Carlini sustained an injury but hopes to return later in the tournament. NBC reported that Carlini is dealing with a back injury that has persisted for awhile. An alternate was a newly created position for the 2024 Olympics and allows a non-competing athlete to replace someone due to an injury. Each team has a 12-person roster, and the U.S. lists five alternates, including Carlini, for its match Wednesday. But the 2024 Games were special for Carlini. She was left off the roster for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, which were contested in 2021, after she seemed like a lock to be the top setter but fell to No. 3 behind Jordyn Poulter and Hancock. The U.S. won gold in Tokyo The four-time All-American while she was at Wisconsin told BadgerExtra she was "just over the moon excited, Cloud 9 for those first couple hours," after she saw her initials on the roster. Poulter's status was shaky as she was working her way back from a serious knee injury suffered almost two years ago. That allowed Carlini to be the No. 1 setter to lead the team through Olympic qualification. “It was great to be handed the reins and it’s a different responsibility, for sure,” she said. “I loved it, I embraced it and if that’s what’s called upon me in Paris, I’m prepared and I’m ready for that. “I feel like the more time I get on the court and get consistent playing time with the girls, that’s helped me a lot. As a setter you’re leading an orchestra in a sense. So how can I be as crisp and clean as possible? That doesn’t come without repetition and figuring it out as we go.”

they must have seen something from her PVF performance? maybe. I just think its weird because there's no way she's in the libero convo for indoors in 2028.

Whatever happened to Fugitiva? I’m surprised she’s not in the mix.

Whatever happened to Fugitiva? I’m surprised she’s not in the mix. I think she's in this weird place of she's not good enough (passing wise) to be an OH but not enough offensively (or big enough) to be an opposite.

Coach Donny (Elevate Yourself) just posted an interview with Karch from when VNL was in Arlington, TX.
He talked EXTENSIVELY about the preference of using a jump float over a topspin in the USA gym. He said that during his second season, the three topspin servers in the gym were extremely inconsistent, causing the team to be the worst serving team. From there, they almost "mandated" the jump float and within a month and a half, became the best serving team and won their first world title.
I thought it was interesting because he DOES mention Hancock's serve to be one of the nastiest ones of female topspin servers, but they found that her jump float equally got teams out-of-system and was in-bounds a lot more. He says that she does have the green light to top spin if she wants, but goes on about the wear-and-tear of practicing it in the gym consistently.
"It has to be elite. And we don't have many elite spinners... We actually raised our serving game by hitting the right person a lot more or the space around the right person, getting it in a lot more instead of 3 out of 4, or 8 out of 10, it's now 9 out of 10."
One of the "three or four elites" he mentions is Kiera Van Ryk who "nearly took off Jordan Larson's head" during VNL LOL. (Queen...)
(He literally talks about this topic for like 7 minutes starting at 11:20 LOL)

He blames, errr... gives credit to resident member joetrinsey for the move away from jump spin and mandating the jump float serve for the team in 2014. Karch does make sense of the serving style change. I like that he said that Micha has the freedom to serve both ways.
