Salt Lake City Showdown may be the most poorly assembled and run event USAV has on their books. The seeding for the open divisions was objectively not good, teams that had no business being admitted into the open division were non-competitive from the jump, three-team pools in each phase of the weekend reeks of low applications for open divisions, and without naming anyone specific, the event staff is uncoordinated, unresponsive to communications, and in some cases down right rude to spectators making inquiries. I was looking at the Qualifier seedings on Friday thinking some of these teams were not seeded correctly. You know something was really bad when one of the teams to win a Bid was the 3rd seeded team in their opening day pool and two of the other teams that got bids were in the same pool on opening day. Having said that this crap goes on at a number of tournaments. Why is it so hard to seed teams for Qualifier? There were some really bad misses for this particular tournament.

There were some really bad misses for this particular tournament. in 17s, some teams should have been screened out of Open (how can you lose 25-1?), and clearly Austin Skyline was seeded too low (simple fix would be to swap them with Vaqueros). ID Crush and Triangle, both good squads, did not help the seedings by falling on Day 1. This year's qualifiers have been remarkably lopsided, either stacked with high quality teams, or having very few. NEQ, PacWest, Big South, and FarWestern were underwhelming-Far Western only had 10 teams! ShowMe, Red Rocks and MEQ had decent competition, surprising because MEQ typically is one of the best. Sunshine and Windy City had really difficult Day 2 pools, and obviously Lone Star will be the hardest qualifier of the season this weekend with 11 teams with bids in hand.

MEQ and Lonestar seem to be the two most challenging Qualifiers every year. I thought MEQ was pretty tough this season as well. I have not looked at Lonestar yet.

How many bids were awarded at Far Western in 16s and 17s?

How many bids were awarded at Far Western in 16s and 17s? Based on the number of teams, looks like just 1 for each age. 16s had 11 teams; 17s had 10 teams

Anyone know if NEQ is being streamed this weekend? I can’t find it on Baller or Be the Beast.

In a perfect world, USAV and NCAA could get on the same page and align the recruiting calendar for coaches to be in attendedance and allow qualifiers to be a little more spread out. The months of March & April can be brutal for clubs top teams.

Now we have to keep teenagers’ attention until the middle of July. The club schedule as a whole could stand to be reworked.

I heard MAVS KC 17-1 pulled out of Lone Star early on 2nd day. Any one know why? They had a couple players go down yesterday, and though they had 6 players today only 4 were healthy. Coaches made the right call and withdrew before jeopardizing others or aggregating an existing injury. These tournaments are hard on these athletes.

Definitely takes a toll.
