if you had another non-turkish player, you might have not lost to Korea in the last olympics too. funny how hypotheticals work.

Cansu Özbay about the Olympics: "If we had made it to the finals, we would have beaten the USA and won the gold medal. But our injuries peaked especially in the semi-final match against Italy. If it weren't for the injuries, we would have definitely won a medal." lol ok cansu. oh I have something nasty to say but we have a medal and they don’t so imma clamp. that speaks all it needs to. no go ahead pls

this isn’t even what I was gonna say but maybe if Cansu and Elif weren’t having a mid-off all quad they could’ve got a medal

didnt they lose to an egonu/fahr/peak sylla/moki/orro-less team italy 3 months ago with basically their A team? lol.
turkiye just needs a CONSISTENT outside hitter. the revolving carousel of 6-7 outsides they were flirting with all quad did nothing but rely on vargas in paris.

Chinese Taipei U17 eliminated Brazil U17 in the quarterfinals of U17 World Championships! I've seen this TPE squad from U16 Asian Champs last year, and this generation is really good vs their older ones. They will face China in the semifinals, which China would most likely win but great experience for all.
China is a favorite of mine this tournament. Their main OH Huang Yuexin (190, 2008) is a beast at this level and has a huge potential for future Seniors NT. Not in this roster but in the Asian U18, their Middle Blocker Wang Aoqian (196, 2007) is also someone I believe has the potential for Seniors in the future.

Japan wins its semifinal against Italy 3-1. Better technical ability and greater agonism made the difference, great in defense and ruthless in attack. For Italy, without wanting to belittle the opponents' abilities, a failure on all fronts, a failure cushioned by the difference in average height (12 cm - 4/5 in.). Anything can happen but I do not think there are among them any who will make it to the major (Italian) national team. In any case it will be an interesting final.

They were the only continent to allow 2007s to compete in qualification for an 08/09 age group.

This 2008-2009 generation of Japan and China already met last year at U16 Asian Championship. Japan won then with MVP Yuzuki Baba being dominant. Now, Yuzuki Baba for some reason, is not in the roster for this tournament together with their 2nd top scorer Opposite Rion Chuganji. I'm bummed about it because Baba and Chuganji seemed like both future Japan NT members in the Seniors and will benefit the most by playing here for experience. I might have to wait for U19 WCH next year to see them again at Junior NT since they carried U18 Asian this year.
Considering how dominant China has been playing this tournament, and with my new favorite from China Huang Yuexin, I'd expect China to win this one.

So you mean that they qualified with a team that couldn't participate in the final round? If so, that's the dumbest staff in the world. And, no, that is not a justification. In the first 2 sets the staff failed to give directions to the Italian block. Throughout the match they forced the serve making so many mistakes. The Italian OHs had difficulty scoring, the performance in defense the difference was huge.

I dont think it was the staff, it was CEV as a whole. The European Championship in 2023 (the qualification event) was U17 in 2023.... when it really should've been U16 to accommodate for the year between the event and the World Championship. Asia's qualification was U16. North and South America were labeled as U17, but the age groups allowed were U16.
