Wondering if anybody had any idea on how to find out a record for most consecutive points to start a match on the D1 level (rally scoring only). Asking because tonight, Valparaiso's Katie Bova served to start the match and did not give up the serve until Valpo had scored 12 points.
And for those who don't follow the mid-major scene closely, Valpo has rolled to five straight wins since losing to Wisconsin, including four Mid-Con victories. We have a tough test Wednesday though, travelling to the Joyce Center to take on #10 Notre Dame.

Don't know to start a match, but the record for the most number of points in a row is 18 held by Courtney Thompson of UDub.

She related to Kris Bova who played at Florida?
I don't know what the record is, and obviously Katie's 12 surpasses this example, but I do remember Aury Cruz serving 11 in a row to start the match against Colorado State in the 2003 regional semifinals. They were her bullet jump serves, too, not some lollipop easy serves.

Yep, younger sister, also a setter. Having a heck of a year so far, three triple-doubles, averaging 12.12 assists/game, 3.33 digs/game, 1.83 kills/game (hitting .311), and has tallied 35 blocks as well.

In 1998, Long Beach State scored 45 straight points against Southern. They didn't all come from the same server in every game, but the final score was 15-0, 15-0, 15-0.

Cal was up 2-0 in games against Florida Atlantic in 2001. They were down 20-14 in game 3, and scored 16 points in a row to finish the match.

Barry, I saw that in the NCAA record book, along with a few others of the same ilk, but I specified rally scoring in my question because of possible sideouts in those matches.

Kris Bova and Courtney Thompson are sisters? So, "Bova" is the married name? Or are they half-sisters?

Ahh...thanks.
My eyes just skipped over the Katie Bova reference. That's why I was so confused as to why/how Courtney Thompson was related to Kris Bova.
I knew Kris Bova played for Florida.

I remember in a 1999 regional semi match UCLA was down 14-0 to Pepperdine (?) before they came back to win the game something like 16-14.

I remember in a 1999 regional semi match UCLA was down 14-0 to Pepperdine (?) before they came back to win the game something like 16-14. That would've been even more impressive in rally scoring. Still, very impressive. I remember a match back in 1997, Florida vs. BYU. Florida was up 13-1, closing in on a sweep, before BYU came back to win 15-13. Florida did manage to win in 4, 16-14, but it was one of the more amazing comebacks I'd seen.

Some other ridiculous stats from that first game last night (Valpo beat IUPUI 30-13):
-Valpo hit .480 (16-4-25) while holding IUPUI to -.250 (3-9-24) -IUPUI had three digs for the game -IUPUI scored eight of their 13 points on Valpo unforced errors (four attack errors, three service errors, one set error) while accumulating three kills, one block, and one ace. -Halfway through the first game, Valpo's Lauren Moulton had as many points as IUPUI, with five (four kills, two block assists) -It took IUPUI until 12-9 in the second game to rack up as many kills as Valpo had in their opening 12-0 run (seven).

I am too lazy to look it up, even on RichKern.com, which is pretty easy to use, but isn't IUPUI decent this year? I think I remember them beating a few people. Maybe not, but if so, that makes it more impressive. I am standing by my earlier prediction of Valpo running the table in the Mid-Con this year and making the NCAAs. It will be interesting to see how they do against Notre Dame. At least they don't have to come to Madison to play this time. I am thinking it will be closer than Notre Dame's matches at UConn and St. John's next weekend, even though those are on the road.
