Week 3 in the books We are going to mirror the AVCA poll and do a top 20. Please rank 20 teams. When you only do 10 or 15 it takes away from the polling numbers for teams in that range. I will include all teams that receive votes that are outside the top 20 as receiving votes (RV). Very hard week to rank for me. Some teams I want to see more of were off or played weaker opponents.
I rarely do this, but at this point in the season, I had to give it to teams that have produced results against top programs so far.
I want to see Long Beach and Hawaii against some tougher competition.
The MPSF is going to be an absolute blooodbath this year with 4 very good teams in UCLA, Stanford, GCU, and BYU.

In this part of the season rankings are still a balance between the potential based on the roster quality and the effective results of the matches. Loosing to OSU by only 2 points in the fifth, today’s convincing win with PSU and the proven quality of their starting lineup makes me keep UCLA at n.1, although Gooch leaving might be a bigger problem than what I thought. The 1st week of February with UCI and LBSU will give us a much better understanding.
Long Beach for me is still at n. 2 as they are taking care of business (today they won against an NJIT that played very well for more than one hour) and they seem to have less weak spots than OSU. OSU and Stanford are coming up very strong. GCU is in a similar mode as LBSU (solid wins but no top opponent yet) but with a slightly less impressive roster. Intrigued to see how GMU and Princeton will continue in the season.
