As much as I dislike BYU in all sports lol....what I miss the most about BYU MVB is their SWAG! Where the hell is it or their confidence or intimidation??? I use to despise BYU because those teams of the past had that swagger and dare I say it a bit of cockiness on the court. But I friggen MISS IT NOW! LMAO The most recent couple years they ain't been scaring not a damn thing. Quite sad tbh. Yeah, they seem like a bunch of nice guys... when I remember the BYU who were @$$ holes and you were surprised that they were decent people off the court. I liked when guys like Moreno and Cala would try to embarrass you on the court. When Sander, Josue and Patch got there it seemed to come back again. I miss it.

It's just not the same.

This might be a hot take, but I think GCU's strength of record now matches Long Beach State:
best win:
GCU 2-0 vs. #6 BYU (6-0 in sets) Long Beach 1-1 vs. #4 UCLA (4-4 in sets)
other ranked wins:
GCU: #16 CSUN (3-0), #18 UCSB (3-1), #20 UCSD x2 (6-0) Long Beach: #11 Pepperdine (3-0), #17 George Mason (3-1), #21 Concordia (3-0)
While the win over UCLA is certainly the most impressive win, back-to-back sweeps at BYU has got to count for something.
GCU certainly passed the eye test this weekend. They're passing can get a little spotty at times, but their serve+block+defense has got to make them one of if not the best point-scoring team in the country right now.

Last year they were 14–0 before their first loss to Pep and then the bad loss to CUI that destroyed their confidence leading to four straight losses, two to UCLA followed by two at Stanford. They sort of fizzled out in the latter part of the season.
I’d love to see GCU still standing at the end, but they are still a bit of a wild card for me.

I know that BYU is not in the powerhouse that they have been, no team has come to Provo and swept BYU 3-0 in back-to-back matches since Pepperdine in 2002.
Statement made by GCU.
Highlight of the series: Matt calling Slight dramatic.
And well done by the BYU crew putting together the piece on Camden.

I know that BYU is not in the powerhouse that they have been, but looking back as far as their website lets me pull up the schedules which was 2007, no team has come to Provo and swept BYU in back-to-back matches. When I click on any year before 2007 it keeps bringing up the 2007 schedule. Statement made by GCU. Highlight of the series: Matt calling Slight dramatic. And well done by the BYU crew putting together the piece on Camden. UCLA swept BYU in Provo in 2022.

I’m saying no one has won 3-0 on back to back nights since before 2007. Edit: schedule page working better now. Pepperdine did it in 2002.

Anyone know why we haven't seen Moser this weekend? Injury? Announcers said he's healthy as far as they know. I guess he's in doghouse since he's seen zero action so far against GCU. Olmstead seems to love Browne and I don’t understand why. Moser is a better blocker and in my opinion, more consistent than Browne

Moser is a better blocker and in my opinion, more consistent than Browne I know for a fact that the GCU coach is relentless in terms of pushing his players. Mental and physical fatigue could come into play. I believe it did last season.

I absolutely agree. Other than coaches like Scates, Gimmillaro, and Shaw as commentators, Jarom Jordan and Steve Vail are my favorite vball commentating team. I’ve never felt compelled to press the mute button while they’re speaking. They’re professional but at the same time they’re fun. They make me laugh a lot. Plus Steve kind of sounds like Norm Macdonald, and that’s never ever a bad thing. In a way, they set a mood... like you’re at home, relaxed and enjoying watching vball with buddies. I’ll probably get some ppl saying, “wtf?” when I say, Jarom Jordan and Steve Vail are far better than Hawaii’s Kanoa Leahey and Chris McLaughlin who a lot of people praise. Personally I think they’re a little overrated. Anyway, I hope Jordan and Vail have a long career in BYU commentating. I don’t think I would have watched as much BYU men’s volleyball as I did over the past few years if it weren’t for them. from Hawaii, and I like BYU commentary over Hawaii's- especially C-Mac. They're too "homer" and dont seem to realise that Hawaii's matches are watched worldwide thru replays Well, to be fair, they do acknowledge and compliment the visiting teams a lot… but if by homer, you mean Iolani and Punahou homers, then yes, I am totally with you. Lol btw, I love your screen name. It makes me chuckle for reasons I should not say. haha
