Highlight of the night for me was when that guy held up a sign & tried to get people to stand up for set point and everyone just ignored em 😂 I sat one section over from that dude and it was funny at how people looked over and then kept their arms crossed.

It does look freaking awesome!

It does look freaking awesome! The problem is you got instigators who are trying to make people stand at set point "because every other team in the country does it". And one of those instigators is on TV (C-Mac).
But as abacaxi and others have mentioned, Hawaii tradition is to stand only at match point. Even Charlie Wade mentioned he prefers it that way, since he feels they havent earned anything yet on a set point.

A set point is one step toward the ultimate goal of winning the match but not there yet. No need standing ovation for winning one set.
It will be like football fans standing and going nuts after leading at the end of the first quarter. It’s only one quarter (or one set in volleyball).
Cheer and clap. Hoot and holler. That should suffice. Standing ovation is reserved for the curtain call/l last point/last strike/last second ticking off the clock.
Leave our traditions alone. Don’t try to change it. Why is that we have to copy and be like everybody else? Is being unique a bad thing? CMac needs to stop and let Hawaii be Hawaii. If he doesn’t like it, he can go do color for Stanford or whoever else he likes.

From a fan standpoint, that is true but from the coaches and competition standpoint, the coaches don't want to make such a big deal over one set because it's only one set. They don't want the players to be all big headed and celebrating over one set.

I think the only time I think he might build some momentum is during those highly match intense games. Then I'm for the crowd rallying behind Hawaii to secure the set. Like the UCLA match last year and all the LBSU matches too. But other easier matches....sit down and wait for Aloha ball. Lol

ALSO, lots of fans cannot clap in rhythm and speed up so that could throw the server's timing off

I would love to hear from anyone whose memory goes further back than mine to see whether my memory is accurate.
Here are some observations based on my imprecise memory which only stretches back to the 1999 season. Hawaii fans stood only at match point. Fans at other schools didn't do anything. Then, fans at other schools started standing at set point. Now, Hawaii fans are being asked to stand at set point because fans at other schools are doing so.
So, Hawaii fans are being asked to copy something fans at other schools copied from us.

Klum gym in 1994. Notice fans sitting on the floor. Bleecher seats, not much standing. Stand on the match point only, and only if Hawai’i will win.
The Stan open in 1994. We only stood on match point as well.
