This really bums me out. Dodgers fire Shohei Ohtani's interpreter amid allegation of 'massive theft' The Los Angeles Dodgers interpreter for Shohei Ohtani was fired Wednesday afternoon after questions surrounding at least $4.5 million in wire transfers sent from Ohtani's bank account to a bookmaking operation set off a series of events. Ippei Mizuhara, the longtime friend and interpreter for Ohtani, incurred the gambling debts to a Southern California bookmaking operation that is under federal investigation, multiple sources told ESPN. How he came to lose his job started with reporters asking questions about the wire transfers. www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/39768770/dodgers-shohei-ohtani-interpreter-fired-theft

It's the most likely scenario.

And the trolling starts early for you. Later moody, Shhhhh! What evidence might you have to accuse someone of this? There was no accusation, merely a speculation. $4.5 M was transferred from Ohtani's bank account Mizuhura makes, at best, half a million a year. To me those numbers don't add up. It's being described as a "massive theft", (why would Mizuhara have access to Ohtani's bank account?) but then it was said that Ohtani sent the money to cover his interpreter (and friend)'s debt. Something seems weird and I asked a question, but you continue to troll away instead of simply joining the conversation. It's what you do.

This guy was more than just an interpreter, doiing all sorts of tasks on behalf of Ohtani. It wouldn't surprise me if Ohtani gave him access to his bank account in order to do all sorts of transactions on his behalf, like paying bills or whatever else needed to be done. He wasn't just an interpreter during the season but assigned to Ohtani for the entire year - probably even traveling with him to Japan.

According to the article they are quite close but I would still be surprised if he had access to Ohtani’s bank account. It is possible though.

I think the fact Ohtani's team has already changed their story should make one very suspicious of their current explanation.

I think the fact Ohtani's team has already changed their story should make one very suspicious of their current explanation. I was thinking that he was covering up for someone he considered a friend. Possibly even hoping to continue their professional relationship despite whether or not he embezzled from Ohtani. So I could see the possibility that Ohtani tried to get ahead of this, but the Dodgers wouldn't have any of it since they were paying the interpreter. I've made wire transfers via online banking before. However, I suppose larger amounts might attract a certain amount of scrutiny where the bank might want a bit more confirmation. That's what some people are claiming. But there is the possibility that Ohtani gave this interpreter access to his text messages, email, etc. which would be used for a wire transfer verification.
