Guys, I have only watched 2-3 UCLA games this year, and just watched the youtube of the Championship game from 2023. Whoever tha UCLA libero is in this game, compared to the one from last year. ooof. That is the biggest difference I see in last year vs this year.

There were quite a a few people noticing Gooch during their run last year, just a minority compared to everyone watching the freshman setter.

That is the biggest difference I see in last year vs this year. UCLA has used 6 different Liberos this year, trying to find the right replacement for Gooch.

UCLA had the best ball control I've seen in a long time last year... Gooch was incredible, and so was Champlin. That freshman setter enjoyed the best passing imaginable.

I think UCLA has accepted they have a weakness at L and the coaching staff has the team comfortable with 3-5 different options they can use interchangably.
We will see if that approach is better than the "pick a guy and go with it" approach.

Hardly hindsight, just too many people blinded by Rowan's breakout season. There were quite a a few people noticing Gooch during their run last year, just a minority compared to everyone watching the freshman setter. UCLA had the best ball control I've seen in a long time last year... Gooch was incredible, and so was Champlin. That freshman setter enjoyed the best passing imaginable. Yes, great passing last year. This year, they are still dominant at 20-4 with a 9 game win streak and wins against 8 of the top 10 teams including two over UCI, 1 over Long Beach, 2 over GCU, 2 over Pepperdine 1 over BYU, 2 over Stanford, 2 over Penn State and 1 over Ohio State all in the top ten. Pretty impressive run with a tough, tough schedule. They also have a win against Loyola. They are in similar position like last year. They are ranked #2. Last year they were ranked #2 and got the #1 seed. Things have been a bit tougher with more five set matches. However, that is to be expected trying to repeat. It is a grind to stay at that level when everyone is circling the UCLA match on their schedule. This crew is 51-6 in 2023 and 2024. They are in good shape to make a run at another title. It will come down to execution on one or two points at the end of close sets. Lots of good volleyball to go.
