+ Schnichels has great first touch hands and Good body mechanics Hanson has earned 6 ro status Her passing has made a Big jump from limited reps last year MN is making efforts to have MB respectfability But they have a ways to go Particularly with middle quicks Wookie is serving better I wish she would get off the taraflex to achieve a better angle of attack Stella is a revelation here in the 4th If you chart the ability of MN hitters to take a full swing SS puts up the juiciest sets particularly to her middles McMike, have you been to either of the other spring matches? Curious if you have seen Stella before and seen improvement already or if this is your first spring match. I agree wholeheartedly about Stella's setting

Some quick stuff from my time at the Pav today:
- serving looked really good as a whole. Not entirely sure if it’s good serving or just a tough passing day for Marquette. Maybe both? - All of the pins looked solid. I assume that Wucherer and Hanson will play 6 rotations. If they plan to use a DS, I’m not sure that person is currently on the roster - If I had to make a setter depth chart, I’d go Mel, Stella, Elise. Though Keegan might have a tough decision to make if Stella’s setting continues to look this good - I love what I’m seeing out of Z as libero and I think the energy she brings on the court is infectious. She’s been tremendous in all of the spring games I’ve seen
And on my end, it was great to see some of the girls I coached in JO, though both of them are on the Marquette side of the court. It makes me feel good to see them at such a high level, but also old because that was years ago 😅

If I’m remembering correctly, you follow Marquette pretty closely, what were your thoughts on how Marquette looked? Who do you think will be their starting line up?

The Gophers came out hitting on all cylinders in set 1. Marquette had no answer for Julia Hanson who had 7 kills by the end of the set.
The second set, they kind of tailed off while running the 6-2 and I felt the passing wasn't as good.
One of the other bright spots for me was the Gophers block was dominating and Marquette didn't have much of a blocking presence.
Minatee was impressive on the slides she ran and has a nice serve as well.
Schnichels played the best I have seen her.
Chloe Ng coming on and getting 3 straight aces was awesome.
Wucherer after a slow start had a big 4th set and connection with Stella.

One comment I heard was that Shaffmaster wasn't running all over the court for passes. They ran a lot of slides. Not sure why people are so slow to get on Z's bandwagon. She made great passes and picked up several assists. Boy can she yell.

Honest question, not trying to attack any players or posters, but from what I read in a lot of these threads is Swenson having consistently better location than Shaffmaster. First, am I capturing this correctly? If I am, what is it that keeps people placing Shaffmaster above her on a hypothetical depth chart? Is she that much better at the other skills to make up for less consistent setting?
I may take the time next week to go to the MN v IL spring game since Waterloo is a stone's throw from where I live, so I may get to see myself.

Shaffmaster brings a lot of net presence with her height and physicality which matters offensively and defensively. She plays good defense. She is very experienced so she's been through a lot of big moments with the program. She has more familiarity with the hitters, though that obviously doesn't necessarily translate to her having better connections with them. And there's always the consideration of whether benching a longtime starter could bring bad vibes.

I keep reading in these Spring posts that Stella is more consistent but also has a better connection with Wucherer. So does this coaching staff along with Wucherer herself want to see more production this next season? Could this be one of the deciding factors for this coaching staff? I am getting the impression it doesn't appear to affect any of the other players who is setting.

I agree wholeheartedly about Stella's setting I was out of town in March for the St. Thomas match In Faribault Stella showed an intuitive feel for where and how high her hitters liked to swing from The thought comes to mind: feng shui. i don't know what that means?! but it's a feeling...she is in tune connecting A comment was made about how Wookie came alive late in the match. A chunk of that, imo, is due to the confidence she has that a SS set is going to be where she can bang it. I thought her net presence was improved week over week and she seemed more comfortable surrounded by the 'A' team. I believe she assisted on a couple of blocks and had more digs this week. Olivia, in for Hanson, was not targeted too much. I took a lot of notes on my phone. Will post them if/when they show up in my email.
