12 with 4 regionals/ play-ins or whole tournament in one city? Ideally in one city so it can be seeded as best they can , but not sure that the NCAA would want to go Mon, Tues, Thurs, Sat - which is how I would do 12 with the 'play in' on Monday. I think you'd have 4 1st round games at host cities, in this case for this year it would have been Penn State, Ohio State, Hawaii, & BYU hosting FVS, Belmont Abbey, Stanford & Loyola/Ball State or have 4 3 team 1st weekend, with a final four this year somethingn like these 4 sub-regionals before the final four in Long Beach UCLA hosting FVS/Hawaii (1 & 8 seeds ) Beach hosting Stanford & Belmont Abbey (2 & 7 seed) Irvine Hosting Ball State/PSU (4,5 & 9) or 'conveniently' making PSU the 4 seed and have PSU hosting Irvine/Ball State for a eastern sub-regional GCU hosting Ohio State/BYU (3,6, & 10 )

Can someone tell me what really happened with Hawaii? In the last 4 years, they have come in 2nd, 1st, 1st, 2nd. This year they didn't even make the playoffs. Inside info?

It's as simple as that. That….and also Hawaii lacked bench depth this season. Backup for the star players who go hurt was a freshman. The guy replacing the star player was wildly up and down. Hawaii also lost their other starting OH for a few games down the stretch with a leg injury. That second OH was never 100% and came into matches at less than 100%, although this replacement did a pretty good job. Bottom line….if Hawaii was healthy, they would no doubt be in the playoff. Their star player was on pace to be a POY candidate.
