I wonder if this will be the oldest team at the Olympics. I hope we see some of the newbies mixed in during VNL

It's the better move to bring 4 impact middles over a second, mid at best opposite. DeFalco or Jaeschke likely taking opposite reps if things get hairy. Not really what will happen. Jaeschke, DeFalco AND Russell will all get swings out of the Right side of the court. If and when all 3 are on the court there doesn't need to be a true Oppo and they can pass 4 like they do with Anderson. It's a very logical move and roster. This team is built extremely well for this Olympic tourney. They will medal

In Shoji's post from last week, those three OH's were all on the same side, it was Russell on the Right Side based off my recollection of the reception formation - or DeFalco was (he was approaching for a bic, so I assumed Russell was on the Right, but obviously it could have been either of those two). Jaeschke was OH1, Averill was MB1, and Micah C was setting.

Interesting that they announced so early, but the roster is very much expected anyway. They are the best guys to bring to Olympics. Strong experienced roster.

It's kinda sad for American volleyball that the USA wide roster has no depth. Probably this quad was the one with least depth ever.
Only question was 3rd middle (Averill or Jendryk) or unnecessary 2nd opp.
Glad Speraw didn't bring anyone who wouldn't make any impact as second opp and decided to bring 4 middles who can make impact in different games.

Wait wut? This roster is extremely deep and we have witnessed every single player play at the highest level this past summer elevating the USA team to the #2 ranking. Ma'a has become a top 10 setter in the world and stands behind the best setter in the world currently. The trifecta of Russell or Jaeschke or DeFalco would start on every team in the world as they are such COMPLETE players. G NEVER fails to answer the bell when called upon. Shoji and Anderson are elite. Smith and Holt are still very respected middles and bring exceptional knowledge and serving to the game. Jendryk was very very good last summer and entering his prime I'd expect him to start most matches come August. Taylor is an offensive threat and blocking is his weakness but man is he a high energy guy and every roster needs a dude like that. It is the most experienced and deep team we have seen on the floor since Beijing. I've said it 100 times....the Olympics is an every OTHER day tourney. While we have depth....and even spot depth too...the older guys like Anderson, Smith, and Holt will benefit tremendously from the schedule.

Are you guys sure that you are able to understand?
I meant usa "wide" roster, not 12 men roster.
And then I explained the fact that there are noone threatening the spots of these 12 men.

No back up opposite is low key a power move , and the right choice. But yikes what does this say about USA’s future lol. I wouldn’t be surprised if they started off the LA quad with moving one of the left sides to opposite .Ensing and Kyle Russell just got snubbed by KOVO in their foreign import tryout and chose lesser unknown players over them. WTF are they really that bad that even Korean league turned them down?? The pay would have been 400k per import

Will this be the oldest USA Olympic roster ever?
Assuming the following roster: Aaron Russell- Outside Hitter, 6-9-Age 31 in Paris TJ DeFalco-Outside Hitter, 6-5-Age 27 in Paris Thomas Jaeschke-Outside Hitter, 6-6-Age 30 in Paris Matt Anderson-Opposite/Outside Hitter, 6-10-Age 37 in Paris Micah Christenson-Setter, 6-5--Age 31 in Paris Micah Ma’a-Setter, 6-37-Age 27 in Paris Max Holt-Middle Blocker, 6-10--Age 37 in Paris Jeff Jendryk-Middle Blocker, 6-10-Age 28 in Paris David Smith-Middle Blocker, 6-7--Age 39 in Paris Erik Shoji-Libero, 6-0 (184 cm)-Age 34 in Paris Garrett Muagututia-Outside Hitter, 6-5-Age 36 in Paris Taylor Averill-Middle Blocker, 6-7-Age 32 in Paris
The average age is 32.42...going back to 2008, these are the approximate average ages (I calculated based on birth year and competition year, not birth day/competition start) 2008 30.1 2012 30.7 2016 28.0 2020 29.1
I was kind of shocked that it was significantly older than the "Let's run it back again" knipe squad of 2012..
to the point made earlier, there are not a lot of young players getting seasoning for LA 2028.

You say oldest roster ever? I say most seasoned roster ever. I think they will get the job done. LA might look a little different but for now, they'll be just fine.
