there’s a glaring lack of depth at opposite and setter. 4 outsides and 1 opposite leave no backup for anderson when the starting left pins are messy. i hope they use the 4th middle to be the serving specialist so ma’a can provide a change in tempo in setting.

Ensin’s attack is awful, where’s Hanes? Is he not going to Paris? They are both awful. Justice for Ben Patch. Should’ve never broke that man’s spirit.

I was disappointed they used Ma'a as a SS in set 3 instead of replacing MC, after making all the other changes earlier.

Did anyone notice a few of Christenson’s four balls being pushed past hitter? I feel like it happened about four times.

Ending’s attack is awful, where’s Hanes? Is he not going to Paris? He's in Anaheim. No, he's not going to Paris as per the roster announcement a month ago. Are they able to change the roster? Hanes’ attack and serve performance were really good in the first week of VNL.

The most concerning thing is what if Anderson behaves like today, what will Speraw do?

Yes, it can be changed - technically. However, it won't be barring injury, of course. Yes, Hanes had a good two matches in Week 1 against Bulgaria and Turkiye.

I agree with the lack of depth for opposite. It makes it difficult to make meaningful substitutions mid set.

I mean, he put on the reserves pins, I don't think he truly expected to win that set. But agreed, it would have been a good time to get him some setting reps.

The match was weird. In the first two, the US was up, then suddenly, Italy takes both the sets. I'm willing to say that we kind of ceded the third set. Italy is still Italy, but they have worse depth problems than the US does. Bovolenta was kind of impact-neutral, but pretty clear upside. On to the next!

Tho I will say, that busted play with Giannelli bump setting the middle was 🤌🇮🇹.

On to the next! i think italy is better depth-wise. i’ve never seen a match with lavia and michieletto both substituted out; it’s always either or. porro is more than capable of delivering. while anderson is more reliable than romano and bovolenta, italy has a clear back up at opposite and no major dropoff. sbertoli also is more trusted to set for gianelli than ma’a is for christenson.
