okay I see someone on a roster that is clearly listed as a sophomore, but she did not enter a singular match last season. what would she be considered? per the rules, she qualifies, but I didn’t want to rock the boat before asking (plus, I don’t even know for sure if I want to pick her up or not) Do we have reason to believe she's a redshirt freshman? If not, then I think she's a sophomore. As far as the rules go, I remember discussing it, but I don't remember agreeing on a solution. As far as I know, this type of decision is left to the discretion of the admins, in this case myself and eazy. she didn’t play in her first season in ANY capacity, and is now a starter. by all accounts, she is in her first season of competing collegiately, right?

Drop: Halle Schroder, OH, Boston College Add: Lydia Grote, OH, Minnesota eazy Lydia done packed and unpacked her bags like 5 times now! mmmm I know. I feel like I want to like Grote. She gets set enough, gets a lot of solid block touches, and has a quality serve. We shall see what she does this week. The plan was to always have three serving opposites on the roster to be able to stack for blocks when I want to. Calcagno was supposed to be my ace in the hole, but she hasn't shown up and isn't even serving. Kamps so far is solid, and the addition of Beason is just wild to me. Just need to fill that last opposite spot on the roster before we start getting charged for the add/drops.

I think next season we need to define freshman better before the season (unless we get rid of the rule). I was always under the assumption that what a team roster said was what we went by. While it is true that anyone that does not step on the floor could be considered a Redshirt Freshman the next year, it feels weird to call someone in their second year of four years on the team that does not plan to use the extra year of eligibility a Redshirt Freshman their sophomore year, a Redshirt Sophomore their junior year, and a Redshirt Junior their senior year when they are honored on senior night. Now there's no way to really know that ahead of time, unless the roster specifies them as a redshirted player. I cannot fathom how many walk-on sophomores on rosters could technically be considered redshirt freshman just because they are never expected to play. To push back on the language of 'first season', what about someone that does not touch the court for 4 years, and then suddenly plays in their 5th year. They would be a Redshirt Senior, but it would be their first season of competing collegiately. I default to a league vote to clarify what constitutes a freshman if there is any question of a grey area unless the other admins have a consensus that they agree on. Despite playing devil's advocate above, I'm indifferent.

There are some ballers in the class of 2025, and we will be mostly free of this covid nonsense but for the grandmas still hanging around (eyes Taylor Landfair).

Despite playing devil's advocate above, I'm indifferent. I am of this mind. A redshirt is not automatic, and there should be some indication of the intent to redshirt (e.g., listing someone as FR or RS-FR on the roster) before charging them as freshmen. It's not that you can't pick up these players, it's that you can't use the Freshman slot (which is designed to put stress on your roster composition to begin with) on them.

Just gonna point out schools make roster errors all the time, like I said when this issue was first brought up.

this is NOT a shot at ay in the slightest, but if we went exclusively by rosters, Ariana Rodriguez would *NOT* have been fantasy eligible during the draft if we’re going per website, among others I’m sure
edit: also, the ncaa gives you 5 years to compete in 4 seasons. a player that didn’t play for four years and started their fifth year would be in their last season of competition. a second year player who didn’t compete in their first year would be in their first season of competition.

The player pool is just so big this year. I fully expected a good 1/3rd of my roster to be a revolving door - and I have three players that haven't even played yet to evaluate! FWIW, I mentioned it to trojan in PM, but I do think we should reassess tighter limits on add/drops now that we have larger rosters. Surely I'm using it to my advantage, BUT, on principle, I believe there should be tighter controls on it.

I want the best fantasy players playing week-to-week. with more options will come more turnover which is why I pushed for a longer free period of add/drops. I think maybe the only control I’d push for is if you pick someone up you can’t drop them for 24 hours maybe?

I’d rather you have restrictions on players you cut from your roster than players you pick up having to wait to cut them again. (Especially with the add/drop deadline thing). If you want to drop someone, you cant get them back in 5 minutes One of my other concerns is the players who are picked up purely for non conf and using them for one week only purposes, or 2-3 weeks. Maybe some are okay with this, but this is mostly for bottom P4 teams.
