SVU has several other great players, Sam Candland would probably be the next in line to be recognized. That guy has a monster arm, excited to see what he can do this season.

FrogJump All-America Preseason Team Selections 1st Team: Kim, Cooper, Sherman, Piontkowski, Givens, Mayotte, Kagan, Stahl, Sheaffer, Mulvaney 2nd Team: Otto, Levinson, Milke, Madsen, Hoffman, Goss, McLellan, Wickens, Normandin, Flanagan Otto and McLellan are the only players not a 2024 All American nor honorable mention. Not sure why there are only 10 players on each team. AVCA has 14 players on each team.

I think they doubled the size of the AA roster in 2014?

Looking at team totals, SVU, CLU, and Springfield all have 2 projected all-americans while they have 2,2, and 3 AA's on the roster at the moment respectively. Interesting to see who leads the country at the end of the season. AVCA honored 28 athletes not including the 10 honorable mentions, FrogJump listed 20, probably not worth comparing the two when one honors almost double the number of athletes. As the original conductor of the Pre-Season All-American list (formerly with Offtheblock) before handing it off to Frogjump - I had arbitrarily set the number at 15 because of the rate of graduating seniors who were All-Americans. The COVID waivers have more All-Americans returning than ever and when conferring with Ramius about this year, we made the decision to extend to 20 with the amount of ultra talented student-athletes in Men's Volleyball.

Maybe we could be saying this another way as well, due to covid the average top player has improved significantly. But at the same you do run the risk of inflation like the classic supervillain said "When everyone is Super/AllAmerican, then no one is"... Hopefully this is a one and done situation due to the timing, and even if the quality of the D3/players improves, only the top players would be recognized.

I'm an advocate for the smaller team size as scarcity creates more value. FrogJump team does a nice job.

UC Santa Cruz goes 1-1 in sets against both Pepperdine and Stanford in preseason scrimmages. A ripple of fear tears through the D3 men's game at this news.

Cal Wickens is retiring as the coach of Nazareth after the 2025 season. Any thoughts on this? How much does his argumentative and combative coaching style diminish his accomplishments?

Cal Wickens is retiring as the coach of Nazareth after the 2025 season. Any thoughts on this? How much does his argumentative and combative coaching style diminish his accomplishments? The only acceptable thought is that Cal Wickens is a titan of the game. He was absolutely instrumental in the growth of volleyball on the east coast and the absolute boom of Division III volleyball across the country. Any other opinion is completely invalid regardless of what his sideline demeanor is perceived to be.
