The Rachel Wacholder I saw play with Kerri Walsh last season in Chicago simply did not have the fitness or the jumping ability to consistently side out against the top-tier teams in the AVP. Wacholder admitted that her body had not come back well from her pregnancy and that her abdominal muscles in particular were a problem. Even during the time she was playing with Walsh, she could not even do a sit-up without pushing with her hands on the floor.
Wacholder's physical condition will have to drastically improve for her to be any factor against the teams in the upper third of the draw. Elaine Youngs expects a lot out of her partners. One has to wonder how long she will be patient with Wacholder if she isn't 100 percent physically.
Not to start wild rumors, but this might not be a surprise: EY picks up Kerri Walsh if (when) she comes back in late season after her second pregnancy.

I'm really interested to see how long EY & Rachel last this time. I know the basics of what happened when they broke up last time on the FIVB, but anyone know the specifics?

Rachel is a very solid player, however against the top their teams her size comes into play if she doesn't get a very hit-able set. When she was with Tyra, that seemed to be the MO, serve Rachel tough, make her make a good pass and make Tyra make a good set. EY is a much better setter than Tyra, so that should help. I don't see KW being able to break up any of the top 3 partnerships for anything less than a half a season. there is too much money to lose Internationally, and domestically in end of the year tournaments and bonus $$. Now if any one of the top teams are playing like crap, then all bets are off. If you want to know more about what is going on with partners, go to the avp.com site, and Hans's hot stove articles are pretty informative. I believe the 3rd one talks about the break up of EY/Rachel.

I think speculation should concern not how well they'll do in 2010, but how long their partnership will last (given their explosive history). The over-under..............6 months ;D

I think I would be worrying about IF they have an AVP tour. It is almost February and no schedule.

What's the LSF (leathery skin factor) of this new pairing?

I think I would be worrying about IF they have an AVP tour. It is almost February and no schedule. No Kerri + No Misty = Nosedive in interest AVP never gets it. Feast or famine cycle. And the athletes? Too self-centered on their whole beach volleyball lifestyle. The reason the public embraced Kerri and Misty was not only their dominance, but their personalities and their ability to sell their sport. Contrast that to the most dominant men's team of the modern era - Karch Kiraly and Kent Steffes. BORING and almost killed the tour in the mid-90's. *YAWN*

Oh, and a close second to KK in the most boring teams of all time? Rogers and Dalhausser. Does anyone seriously think EY/Wacholder or GrumpyMan/ThinBeast will hold the public's interest at all?

c'mon folks its not like the AVP had the advantage of capitalizing on two Olympic Gold medals to generate interest.

No Kerri + No Misty = Nosedive in interest Did you miss the fact that Misty is playing this year, with Nicole Branagh? That's why EY needs a new partner. No AVP schedule in January? SOP. Not to say they don't have trouble. Like no title sponsor yet, last I heard.

The AVP cant go under NOW... the NCAA is about to breathe life into the professional beach volleyball scene... the economics cant be THAT bad... the NCAA would have seen that coming.

Gone are the days of walking onto the beach to catch an AVP tournament. Now you have to dish out $25 to do that. Nothing against the girls, but we can thank Kerri and Misty for that!
I am not sure EY had many options for partners. Doesnt sound like any of the top players (and there are only 4 or 5) wanted to take a chance on playing with her.

Idea for a reality series: Real Housewives of the AVP.
Perhaps I should patent this idea.

What's the LSF (leathery skin factor) of this new pairing? No kidding and wait till they hit their 50's and 60's.......................it won't be a pretty picture.
