Watching her serve during warmups down in Boulder last season I couldn't help but wonder how the coaches kept that deadly jump serve on the bench. I asked her about that after the match and she said the right girls were playing. I kind of got the sense from the tone and texture of her reply she was being careful to say the right thing.

Just goes to show that athletic testing doesn't mean much when it comes to on-the court performance.

Her jump serve was impressive at times but it was very inconsistent. Nothing like Larson's or even Pavan's used to be for the Huskers. And this spring she was doing a float serve.
I think she could play somewhere as an outside hitter even. An Angie Pressey or Kelsey Black type of player.

she's another example of a great athlete being gobbled up by the big programs only to sit the bench. It is hard for a 17 year old to say no to a Nebraska or Penn State. she absolutely would have been a big impact player at any school outside of the top 15 programs.

Was she on scholarship, or a walk-on?
I guess she can transfer to a Big 12 school now, if she wants . . .

Was she on scholarship, or a walk-on? I guess she can transfer to a Big 12 school now, if she wants . . . In the past, Nebraska had only given L/DS recruits a scholarship for two of the four years. I'm not sure if this was the case with Megan. If so, I'm also not sure which years she would have been on scholarship.

It is proof that the big schools cause these athletes to get stars in their eyes and they don't ask who is in front of them, how many years do the other players in the same position have, they don't pay attention to how good the other player is, and then they end up sitting the bench when they could have been an all star at another school.

She got Cooked. She is welcome in the Big 12. Did she? As a recruit for a top 10 program, with six starters plus the L and usually 12 plus players on the team, half the players will be on the bench, often the freshman and sophmore's which is what Megan was while at UNL. When it became apparent that she was not a leading candidate for a starting position next fall, she opted to go somewhere else. Good for her and I hope it works out well for her. She got to be part of a highly ranked team and was able to go on the China trip last year, so this hasn't been a totally negative deal for her. I assume she's been on scholarship these last two years, but have no first hand knowledge of it.

I don't agree this is proof at all. She signed up knowing she would be a sitting for the first year behind Kayla Banwarth but didn't know that Lara Dyksta was coming in this year and that Dystra would be better. Shelby Winkelmann is coming in next year with some pretty good credentials also. I think she just saw the writing on the wall and decided if she wanted to play, it would have to be somewhere else. She was popular with the fans for the jump serve she displayed early but it just wasn't consistent enough to get on the court with it.

Best wishes to Megan. She seemed to have great chemistry with her teammates. You could see it coming though in terms of her lack of playing time. Hope she lands on her feet with her smile in tact.
