Mehh... I don't think it's a good story; I don't mean her "adopted" Beltran family. I mean her relationship with her biological mother. At the beginning, I was expecting she changed her last name was because, perhaps, her biological mother walked out on her or was involved in a criminal activity, etc. But that wasn't the case. She worked hard to get Jen to a good, and expensive, Catholic school as a single mother. It seemed like Jen just took up to liking the Beltrans and dropping her relationship with her biological mother. The Beltrans should have said, "No, I don't think you should do for the sake of your mother. But we appreciate your thought. And you are always welcome in the Beltrans family." I can't imagine what her biological mother was thinking when Jen first told her of her decision. That's so sad to me. That's her only daughter and she did the best she can to give her everything, but her love is with the Beltrans. That just sucks.

I'm so disgusted with this response that I don't even have words for it.

The writer really did not do a good job of conveying what is actually going on. There does appear to be a break in her relationship with her biological mother, the writer alluded to it but did not actually explain what happened, perhaps intentionally. Regardless, she did a poor job with that part of the story.
jsn112 seem to be projecting a lot of emotionally fraught drama into an article and a story we don't know anything about. Some people see the glass as half full, others see it as half empty.

It always sends up a red flag, when the author says,..."looking for a better life"!
Odds are the family entered the country other then by legal channels.
....could be wrong.

OMG, "other than legal channels"?? I've yet to see an article about her that doesn't say they came from another country. Pretty stupid for someone here illegal wouldn't you say.

Im always amazed by peoples ability to be heartless in someone elses struggles. No one knows the whole story and until you walk a day in her shoes perhaps you should just keep your mouth closed....unless of course you have something positive and encouraging to say to this YOUNG woman...

This is a sports message board. It thrives on negativity and insults. It makes the posters feel superior. It's sad and pathetic but that's what fuels them.

Wow! That was a wonderful story! It sound like that she appreciate everything that her adopted parent did for her, eventho she mention that she still has a relationship with her real mother, but for jsn112 to make a comment that it sucks which is on call for, well this one for you js112 you suck! and for you zomofo to say that this disgust you, well you disgust me! If you guys can't be happy for her and the decision that she made,oh well! keep your sorry ass comment to yourself! If you can't say anything positive don't say anything at all! you are talking about a teenager. Jennifer felt strongly about her decision that she made, then support her.

Great kid, great player. I don't know the situation, but based on the story I don't think anything warrants name change. She obviously thought it as the right thing to do. Still the same initials so come on JB. Show us what you can do on the court.

Who cares what she wants to call herself and who cares why she wants to changer her name...why is this even a topic...obviously there are issues but really, who cares.
Frankly why would Illinois sports department bother with this...why does this "Junior" even talk to this Illinois reporter unless he wants publicity. Do you call the reporter up or have someone run to the reporters office and let them in on this name change?
What benefit is gained by offering yourself up? Are you looking for a "oh poor me" or are you looking for "look what I did".
How about Bonilla/ Beltran or the "libero" imroving on passing the ball to the setter, play better defense and helping Illinois win, and lets leave at that...
