Hmmm... Idaho hasn't lost at home this year. They are 1-0.

UCSB found their focus in Game 5 and played very well. The odd thing watching the match was that LMU looked like the UCSB teams of old with great digs that were frustrating UCSB. OTOH, for most of the match UCSB owned the net.
I love the fact that I can actually watch the team play again. Thanks to UCSB and the Big West for setting it up. I take back my earlier comments about lack of game tracker. The original blurb on the Big West site said that they would do all matches, and obviously they were not. What they are actually doing is all Big West team matches played at a Big West school. ;D

Check out the Big West site, $9.95/month, very nice vidro feed, even all the way out here in Miami!
In terms of the let down, we were just playing on our heels. We were making a lot of mistakes, we weren't hitting aggressivly, we jsut looked like we were walking through the motions. I can see how we beat Wisconsin and also how we were swept by UNLV.

Congrats to UCSB frosh setter Brandt, who came out on top in the battle of the old and the new. McLaughlin also seemed to have a good match. I'll be interested in seeing the box score.

Still a lot of passing problems. Nothing like the Cal Poly night, but still not very good. Other than that, I didn't notice much. it was a really long day and I had trouble paying attention.
I did notice that Dutro played really well though. Her body language still makes it obvious where she's going with it, but at least she can move the ball around a little better. Still, I'd rather have freshman Brandt.
Jamie Garbisch had a large and nasty bruise on the side of her right bicep, no doubt from that collision she had with the bleachers on saturday. Didn't seem to affect her, but it looks like it must have been a really sore Sunday.

Brant vs. Dutro
Both had 62 asists, Dutro had 5 kills to 0 for Brandt; Brandt had 4 aces 0 SEs, Dutro had 1 and 0; Dutro had 13 digs, Brandt had 10, Brandt had 3 Blocks to Dutro's 0; and Brandt had 1 BHE to Deutro's 4.
Like I thought, UCSB out blocked LMU 15-8 but was out dug 93-69. LMU won the hitting battle, but UCSB won the serving battle.
Great match by Quirarte: 17-4-34 @ .382 and 8 blocks. Waldowski: 16-3-42 @ .317 and 6 blocks McLaughlin had one of her best matches: 16-5-46 @ .239 3 blocks and 9 digs

Brett Quirarte definitely earned the MVP honors tonight. It is the best I have seen her play. Kudos also to Rebecca Saraceno for an outstanding game 5 performance - great clutch playing from the freshman at the end of a very long match.

Nice win for the team- played some of their best ball in game 5. Lots of credit should go to the block for this win- 29-13 advantage UCSB. That plus better serving (10 aces, 4 for Brandt, 3 for Leite) was enough to offset LMU's advantage in digs (97-69) and hitting (.263 to .231). Quirarte and Waldowski dominated in the middle- out blocking and out hitting their LMU counterparts. McLaughlin had her best match of the year, she was really attacking the block. Nice to see Dutro have a good match too, she had to be feeling a little strange. LMU's Heather Hughes is an awesome opposite hitter, whenever they needed a big kill she put the ball down.

She might have felt a little strange but I doubt if Dutro paid much attention to the classy tribute the Gaucho fans gave her every time she served as they drummed the stands with their feet and yelled out 'Traitor'.
