I only listened to portions of the match, but it looks like the passing was suspect again tonight. I think Fresno had 8 or 9 aces and numerous bad passes, and despite that Hawaii still was never really threatened in this match.
I caught Shoji's post match interview, he said it was a bit sloppy, but he was just happy to get out with a 3-0 win and go to bed early. He wanted to rest Houston and Sanders in that third game.
San Jose State will be a slightly tougher test, but they should still sweep.
BTW I agree with what another poster said, they will be crowded in the middle next year with Kaufman, Sanders, Gregory, and Thomas all returning, but yeah they can worry about that later.

If Kaufman was available against Florida, Stanford and UCLA, I wonder how things might have been. Hawaii had bad passing in those games. Hawaii hitters Mason, Houston, Sanders, Gregory and Hittle and AA setter kanoe couldn't perform up to par. They played disheartened, confused and out of character. The passing went helter skelter the way the UH football special team went helter skelter against Atlanta and Boise St. Things like this just don't happen very often. I can only imagine how the outcomes would have been with good passing and with Kaufman playing. Well, we may possibly get to see this in post season.

Did Lee play libero or was it Woolford? Keefe seems to be a litte inconsistent with her hitting. But her blocking numbers have been remarkable all season. I hope she improves her hitting stats because I want her to remain in the starting lineup.

Why does Kaufman only goes to the step-out? I know she gets more elevation on one foot (like a high jump), but doesn't Meriwether get hops on the quick set? Kaufman should be utilized more. Instead of just going to the slide to the right, they should start her from the left running into the middle. Florida did plays like that back in 98 with Jones.

LET'S GO BOWS!!!! call me tomorrow to tell me where to meet...from what I heard on the board...it seems like though the Bows weren't really challenged they didn't play that great and had a lot of lapses...but it seems everyone was doing really well at least in stats except for Mason

Did you happen to watch the match, or are you just making assumptions? Do you really know that Kaufman hit the step every time? Not everytime, but yes, I did catch it via web. I also watched her during her two home matches this year. She's hitting behind the setter 90% of the time. I'm just saying with someone who is so athletic, move her around and around. I'd love to see her do a step-out from the back row. But, Jones from Florida use to run from the left to the middle (not middle to right) for a different twist. If Amber continues to do well, Hawaii won't change, but the good teams will eventually pick up on her tendency (which is go behind the setter). Add more wrinkles to Hawaii's offense. Hawaii hardly does combination plays and they should do it. With all the athleticism they have, why not.

Hey, Ace, don't summarize her playing style so soon, man! Because she's so athletic she will have no problem doing those things you mentioned just as well. If a child doesn't develop speech by the fourth birthday, he is doomed forever, for the brain speech facility is finalized by the 4th year and cannot be changed after that. Kaufman's hitting development is not this kind of must development. So what if Kaufman goes only to the step out- so far she is effective. Last nite she hit over .400. So what if the good teams eventually pick up on her tendency. She may still continue to be unstoppable, llike Prince, or will vary her approach. As Shoji said in last night's after-game interview, She will be twice as effective when she knows the game. And that, as I commented in another post, is scary (for the team on the other side of the net).

I should add that she has the potential of being a cross between Prince and Willougby. So far in the three or so games she's played, we have seen only the Prince's side. The Willoughby side will be showing up too. Ace, I know where you're coming from- like you I cannot wait to see the Willoughby side. Be patient, man, it's coming.

No kidding, folks, Kaufman looks like a real deal! she definitely is in the mix! She may even be a notch above all others. one game but... she does look great... even with the slightly blurred video feed. i don't think she even played in the first game. I was summarizinfg all games I saw her play. This was her third game, I think. All three games she played consistent and with great leaping ability. With players like her around, you don't need 6'4"'s, 6'5"'s.
