With their injuries, BYU is lucky their schedule worked out the way it did. Luckily, their weakest part of the schedule has been last week (3-2 win against TCU, 3-1 win against New Mexico) and the upcoming 2 weeks (Wyoming, UNLV, San Diego State, Weber State). Are they a top 25 team right now? Don't think so, but will probably remain because of their schedule. They don't play Utah until 10/27, and don't play Colorado State until Nov 27 (almost 2 months after their first meeting-how come?)
As I looked at BYU's bench, I can't help but shake my head at the "middles" that are on scholarship, that will sit the bench for 4 years (5 counting a redshirt year). He gives a scholarship to Jenna Judkins (back-up setter), but her dad is the women's BB coach at BYU-aren't most of her expenses covered? Sitting in the stands lat weekend is Lindsey Evans (starting libero for past two years) who quit because she couldn't afford to play, go to school, be married, etc. Why not give her the schollie? Why not give any DECENT libero a schollie? Don't need anymore tall girls taking up room on the bench. BYU needs a decent libero and some back row digging machines. Yet Jason let two decent back row players leave. The other night, Erica Lott was struggling mightily on the back row, but there was no one to put in-lots of tall lanky middles, but no back row help. The libero has no fire, no heart, and the other DS is only averaging 2.19 D/G. When you're playing left back, you should be digging a whole lot more than that. Both pass, ok but not great. I have come to realize the past 3-4 years how important that libero position is. If BYU had Kekei Crabbe, or the Peniata girl from Minnesota, it would really improve their team. I hear both wanted to come, but needed a scholarship. Karen should have given one of them a schollie. Jason needs to find someone and reward them with a scholarship.
