here is a message to all you top 25 poll members. How about taking the time to do your job right or get a replacement? This is more of a poll of punishment than it is for reward. Stop voting by familiarity of school name a past success and more on RPI and recent top 25 upsets! Minnesota takes a game off #2 Penn state and is two points from going 5 games and possibly beating Penn State, then beats #14 Ohio State (Who just beat Wisconsin) at their place and the Gophers move up one spot?!! What will happen when Minnesota beats #9 Purdue this Saturday? Move them up to #22? Minnesota has an RPI of 6 and has taken games off of #1 and #2 in the country. Do your research coaches, this poll is important for recruiting and marketing of our sport!

I will agree that Minnesota should have got more of a bump but taking one game in a loss is still a loss. It means nothing. Would've, could've, should've. Somewhere I hear Ruffda saying, "I told you so."
What will happen when Minnesota gets beat by Purdue? Out of the poll once again?

Since Purdue is ranked much higher than Minnesota, Minnesota should stay the same. Isn't that what I'm hearing from the experts on the board?

A loss to the #9 team will cause anyone to drop. It is basically only inside the top 5 where losses don't really hurt

What will happen when Minnesota gets beat by Purdue? Out of the poll once again? If that were to happen, I'd "only" expect a drop to 25 at this point, unless we also lost to Indiana.

Isn't part of the silver lining that (I believe) the selection committee uses RPI as one of the main selection criteria? So our 6 RPI is good in that regard. I know the AVCA poll is part of it but I don't think it is weighted as much as overall record, conference record, and RPI. And frankly, the AVCA poll ranking didn't help MN in last year's seeding.
So, all we can do is keep winning.

Isn't part of the silver lining that (I believe) the selection committee uses RPI as one of the main selection criteria? I have never seen any indication that the volleyball committee uses RPI for anything, despite it being listed as a primary consideration. Basically, if it supports their decision, they will say it is part of the process. When their decisions are inconsistent with RPI, they say it is only one consideration, and not the only one. The significance of RPI is generally overstated in volleyball, as far as we can tell.

Can someone explain why there is not an affiliation to the NCAA in womens volleyball? If the AVCA is affiliated, then why not have the same publicity that the other sports receive through the medias? If the polls were in the USA Today, Sports Illustrated or other sports media then just maybe the coaches voting might be a bit more interested in the voting system

Now it's officially the "CSTV/AVCA Division I Top 25 Coaches Poll", and USA Today still publishes it. www.usatoday.com/sports/college/volleyball/women/div1poll.htmI've never heard of the NCAA conducting an official poll for wide release. They did have some sort of regional ranking system a few years back.

They did have some sort of regional ranking system a few years back. They still have this, just do not publish it. Bass-turds.

As I understand it, they will be publishing it once during the season sometime in November.

Shouldn't LSU drop more than just 3 spots after losing to the Crimson Tide?
