Libero breaks USC record, Pac-10 mark not far off
Debora Seilhamer had 28 digs Friday night to pass Katie Haller in career digs.

Although she set the record for career digs Friday against Arizona State, USC women's volleyball senior libero Debora Seilhamer still insists on a selfless attitude so that the No. 4 Women of Troy (17-0) maintain their current streak of success.
"(The record) is exciting, but it doesn't matter if we don't get past Stanford, then to the final four and then the national championship," Seilhamer said.
With 28 digs Friday, the senior passed Katie Haller for first place (1990-93) with a career total of 1,729, and she ranks third all-time in the Pacific-10 conference behind Chrissie Zartman of UCLA and Candace Lee of Washington.
"For Debora to break (the record) in only two years shows she's a fantastic player," junior Katelyn Bishop said. "Hopefully, she'll keep going and knock off Candice Lee and Chrissie Zartman for the conference record."
Seilhamer served as the backup libero for the 2003 national championship team, but took on the starting position in 2004.
"Defensive players have always been looked over, but Debora makes her presence known," senior co-captain Kimi Freeburg said. "She's solid on the court almost every day, and she always contributes to the team. The fact that she now has the most career digs is something awesome for the team, too. We joke that she'd better thank her blockers for that, too."
Freeburg is sometimes part of the middle-blocking core that has nearly tripled opponents in total blocks this season.
While Bishop started both games this weekend in Arizona, the duel between Bishop and sophomore Kelli Tennant for the last starting position has yet to be decided.
"Kelli hurt her shoulder last weekend, so we really did not want to expose her this weekend, but she had a great practice (Monday)," coach Mick Haley said.
"It's game by game, and then during practice we're still going on and off," Bishop said. "I think both of us takes advantage of the opportunity every time we get out there. Hopefully one of us will find out, but if not, then we'll keep going the way it has been."
"I think everybody's pretty healthy going into Stanford," Haley said. "We may have some nicks and bangs and stuff. If we had to play cello, we might have some trouble, but in volleyball we're all right."
