MN swept IN tonight in the Sport Pavilion -17,-24,-29. The middles were on fire and Brad Johnson (MN Vikings QB) was in the house. Guess we know what he does on a bye week.

His wife was really getting into the match. She seemed to really enjoy it.

Some observations from last night's match.
1) Why doesn't Hebert wear a tie anymore? I always thought it made him look classier and set him apart from other coaches. It made me think that a match was a big deal to him.
2) What has happened to the intermission entertainment?
3) What has happened to the crowds? I think the marketing for volleyball has been almost non-existent this year. I have not seen one ad in the newspapers, any mini billboards at bus stops and even the poster outside of the Pav is of a player that graduated.

I think the marketing for volleyball has been almost non-existent this year. I have not seen one ad in the newspapers, any mini billboards at bus stops and even the poster outside of the Pav is of a player that graduated. The volleyball program lost their marketing person last spring. I don't feel the new person, whoever it is, has the same passion for the sport or the relationships with the staff. The former marketing rep had a great relationship with both the staff and the booster club. Maybe others on the booster club know the marketing person but I, for one, do not. I also noticed that the poster outside the Pav still shows Paula. Need to promote the current players. There have been ads in the Strib but fairly generic. Hopefully, tonight's match vs. Purdue in the Barn will be large. I have heard some positive comments about the expected crowd. Also, how "great" is it that both the women's and men's hockey teams played at basically the same time as the volleyball team. Nothing like splitting the fan base. The women's team plays this afternoon; hopefully, some of those fans will attend the volleyball match as well.

I do think there are fewer posters (especially those big bus stop ones), but they have bought some. This week, I was peeing at the Mann St Louis Park theater and was disconcerted to realize that Meredith Nelson was looking right at me -- from the ad above the urinal.

So rather than real advertising we have potty posters? I was not aware that there was a new marketing person. That explains a lot. Is that why there is no intermission entertainment?
(My favorite entertainment was on the 3 Amigos night a few years ago. There was a mariachi (sp) band there. When the announcer introduced them he said they were a mariucci band. Only in Minnesota)

Is there anyway a run of the mill fan can contact the marketing department and tell them to get with it?

Is there anyway a run of the mill fan can contact the marketing department and tell them to get with it? I'm sure you could. As far as the bus stop posters go, it is my understanding that the program used to get a number of spots free due to a relationship with the program. Not sure if the number of posters are down this year or not. And re: the bathroom posters, your experience is one reason our company chooses not to do bathroom advertising! "So, how did you hear about us?" "Well, I was taking a pee..."

I forgot to mention the Bee Gees reference made by the PA guy on Friday evening.
"Just like the Bee Gees, Indiana is staying alive!"
I love this guy!
