We are absolutely not in agreement that their pre-conference schedule could have been stronger. They tried to play everybody and nobody would play. USC pulled out, Stanford turned down a home and away, Hawaii turned down a home and away and Washington turned down a home and away.l Nebraska played the best schedule they could. Nobody is more dissapointed in their pre-conference schedule than they are. I can't believe teams are turning down opportunities to play great opponents in front of 10-15,000 people. How can top teams turn down home and away contracts and on top of that get financial guarantees that are off the charts for college volleyball. Top teams are actually turning down offers to come to Nebraska and play UN and PSU, thats insane.

With depth & awesome recruiting it's looking like Texas is in good position to be a top 10 if not higher year in and year out. I think a split (home/away) between NU & Texas is very likely for the next 2-3 years. And this is another one of your sarcastic posts, right?

The problem with scheduling isn't that the great programs don't want to play Nebraska period, it's that they don't want to play at Nebraska. Therefore, when JC offers a home and home, or single match in Lincoln/Omaha with all expenses paid, they turn it down. It will be interesting to see if JC will ever relent and schedule a road trip to a good team, without a guarenteed return of that team to the Coliseum, in an effort to get his team some quality competition. Now, if the rest of the Big 12 would just get its stuff together, and not be so darn mediocre, he wouldn't have to worry about it. But that isn't just going to happen over night. Texas has been more than a handfull for NU at home the last two seasons by winning in 2005 & going to 5 games in 2004. With depth & awesome recruiting it's looking like Texas is in good position to be a top 10 if not higher year in and year out. I think a split (home/away) between NU & Texas is very likely for the next 2-3 years. I thought Texas was in a position to really push Nebraska this year. Winning the AVCA was obviously impressive. But their play in the Big 12 has been very disappointing. We'll see on Wednesday night if they can get up for the Huskers and push them around. I'm half-hoping they do, just to see how we respond.

It would have been sarcastic if I said Nebraska was a fun and exciting place to live.

If Nebraska wants to play Hawai'i, they just need to come out here... do you think any Nebraska players, parents, or fans will object? Besides, Nebraska is lucky that they aren't on Hawaii's preseason schedule... it's typically a jinx. Each year, Hawaii's preseason opponents start out high in the rankings and drop through the floor.

That's because all those pre-season victories over Hawai'i look less and less impressive as they rack up a string of WAC 5-gamers.

I think that was the point. According to other posters, programs are willing to have teams come to their place but they do not want to go to NU for a follow up match. And, since most non-conference matches/tourneys are held in late summer/early fall, the weather in the Midwest is pretty nice. So, the allure of Hawai'i may not be as great.
I don't care how strong your program is, if you want teams to come to your place you should be willing to travel to their place.

Speaking of which, when was the last time the Huskers took a trip to the West Coast for a Preseason match(es)? The latest one I can recall was a couple years ago at USC back when Ross, Killian were there. #1 NU was upset that night in was it 4 games?

It depends on how specifically you want to define "West Coast". The Huskers last played in California in 2001 when they were in the NACWAA Tournament at Pacific and also played in another tournament at LBSU. In the NACWAA, Nebraska won both matches, beating Hawaii 3-0 and Pacific 3-1. At Long Beach, Nebraska defeated UCSB 3-0 and lost to LBSU 3-1. In 2002 the Huskers played in a tournament at Arizona, where they beat Pepperdine 3-0 and Arizona 3-1. That year they also played in a tournament at Ball State where one of the opponents was USC. According to the archived article on Huskers.com, #3 USC defeated #2 Nebraska in a 3-game sweep. Is that the match you mentioned in your post?

aaronic, Nebraska offered to go to USC, Stanford, Hawaii, Washington and was turned down. Nebraska of course asked that they returned and offered a hefty guarantee for them to do so. They declined. What are you gonna do? Nebraska will play anywhere, anytime, you do have to have an opponent willing to play though. PSU will home and away with PSU next year.

Keystone - Is this what you are talking about? The following is an excerpt from a VB article in today's print edition of the Lincoln paper:
****************************************************************************
* It appears that Nebraska and Penn State, the teams ranked first and second for much of this season, will play a match at Qwest Center Omaha next year.
John Cook confirmed Tuesday that a tournament is shaping up that would include Nebraska, Penn State, Creighton and Cal Poly. There would be matches Friday night, Aug. 31, at the Coliseum; Sunday afternoon Sept. 2, at the Qwest Center; and Monday afternoon, Sept. 3 (Labor Day) back at the Coliseum.
