In another forum, I just sent a post where I noted this week is probably one of the most important weeks of the season. I call it the "Season Defining Week," because many of the matches will have a huge impact on the direction of the rest of the season. These aren't just matches that are "interesting," but ones that start clearing up some of the muddy waters within conferences: Things going on: Nebraska vs Texas - can someone challenge the Huskers? Minnesota vs Wisconsin - to determine #2 in the Big Ten USC vs UCLA - second place in the Pac Ten on the line Oklahoma vs Missouri - in Norman - OK has handled the middle of the Big 12 quietly but nicely; can they battle the top of the conference? Oregon vs Cal: Two teams with the exact same resume, just that one is ranked #8, the other barely gets votes UNI vs Wichita St/Missouri St: Battle for the top of the MVC (although I think the NCAA bids for that conference are coming only by winning the championship) Purdue vs Illinois - Illinois playing well, Purdue finally gets to play at home (ok, this isn't up the par with the others ) Speaking of the national scene and conferences clearing up, last night's Florida St loss to Miami now puts Clemson alone at #2 in the ACC. FSU still has to play two matches against conference leader Duke, while Clemson has them once more, at home. Odd for UNI, who had scheduled Kansas St, Notre Dame, and Georgia Tech to discover that in fact their top opponents (outside of Purdue and Minnesota) were Clemson and Alabama (who have been on a roll since their loss to Florida)

I think it is next.
Nope, you are right. It's Sunday.
However, that has lost some interest with FSU's loss to Miami.

If UCLA and or USC loses, why would one of them be second ?? Isnt there a 3 way tie for 1st ?? so that means one of them will be tied for first and the other tied for second

The one that loses is definately going to be behind in the race for 2nd place Psshh. Washington still got a shot at the title. And so does both SC and UCLA. Stanford IS beatable.

Hofstra hosts defending CAA champion Virginia Commonwealth on Friday. Hofstra is 10-0 in the CAA, VCU is in the middle of the pack...but this would rank as pretty important as far as regular season matches. Espcially because this is a conference that will get just one bid.

St. John's vs. Notre Dame on Sunday is one of two remaining pieces in establishing the pecking order in the Big East. (The remaining match of interest will be ND at Louisville, with St. John's already having beaten the Cardinals.)

Wow, no mention of San Diego (6-0 WCC) v. Santa Clara (4-2) and Pepperdine (4-2) v. Loyola Marymount (3-3). Wins by SC and Pep would make the final 7 matches in that conference interesting...

According to the RichKern "free ranking page", 36th in the RichKern poll. I'm guessing that's part of the "also receiving votes" set, which makes assigning such a rank a dubious proposition. ND doesn't really have any "good" results to justify a ranking.

Cedar Falls, Iowa - In front of a sellout crowd of 2,052, the University of Northern Iowa volleyball team moved into sole possession of first place in the Missouri Valley Conference with a 3-1 win over Missouri State Friday night at the West Gym. Game scores were 30-16, 30-26, 18-30 and 30-19. With the win - its eighth straight - UNI improved to 17-6 overall, 9-1 in the MVC, while Missouri State fell to 16-5, 8-2.
The Panthers had a balanced offensive attack, with four players reaching double figures in kills. Sophomore Ashten Stelken (Manchester, Iowa) led the way with 11 kills and a .348 hitting percentage (11-3-23), while Trista Humpal (New Hampton, Iowa), Shannon Aschoff (Ankeny, Iowa) and Danielle Brazda (Omaha, Neb.) each had 10 kills for UNI. Brazda, who ranks 11th in the NCAA in blocking, had seven blocks on the night, while Humpal added six, four of them solos.
Leading 11-8 in the first game, UNI went on a 7-1 run to extend its advantage to 18-9. Brazda had a kill and teamed up on a pair of blocks during that stretch, effectively sealing the opening game. MSU got no closer than eight points the rest of the way, as the Panthers won, 30-16. UNI hit a whopping .500 (15-1-28) in the first game, while Missouri State hit just .051 (12-10-39).
In a back-and-forth second game, the Panthers used a late run to go up two games to none. Missouri State led by as many as three, 14-11, and maintained its advantage as late as 18-17. UNI rallied to take a 22-20 lead, but MSU scored two straight to pull even. The teams then traded points until the score was 26-all, at which point UNI scored the final four points, two on blocks. Aschoff and Brazda teamed up on game point, giving UNI a 30-26 win.
Helped by three Ashley Kell service aces, Missouri State jumped out to an 8-0 lead in game three and never looked back, cruising to a 30-18 win. The Bears hit .360 (12-3-25) and had eight blocks in the game, while the Panthers hit -.194 (7-13-31).
The Panthers took control midway through the fourth game to seal the match. Leading 15-13 in game four, UNI went on a 9-1 to go up 24-14. Humpal had a service ace, and Kristin Belzung (Ankeny, Iowa) and Brazda teamed up for a pair of blocks during that decisive run. UNI held its lead the rest of the way, winning 30-19.
UNI concludes its season-long four match homestand tomorrow night, when Wichita State comes to the West Gym. After their 3-0 win over Bradley tonight, the Shockers are 17-4 overall, 8-2 in the MVC. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m., and the match can be heard on KWLO 1330 AM.

Looks like a shootout tomorrow with WSU...
Wichita State 3, Bradley 0
Wichita State limited the rest of the Braves to an .088 attack percentage as the two-time regular-season MVC champion Shockers defeated Bradley 30-21, 30-21, 30-25 in Missouri Valley Conference volleyball action Friday night at Robertson Memorial Field House.
Katrina Goncher recorded five of her team and career-high 10 kills in the first game, helping Bradley to a 19-18 lead in the opener. Freshman Stephanie Tokarz helped spark a Wichita State rally, however, tallying one kill and three service aces during an 11-2 Shockers run as WSU posted a 30-21 victory in the first game.
The Shockers (17-4 overall, 9-2 MVC) held the Braves to an .081 attack percentage in the second game and hit .213 as they took a two games to none lead with a 30-21 victory. Bradley collected eight kills in the second game, compared to 18 for Wichita State and the Shockers owned a 22-16 edge in digs in the frame.
Wichita State built a 10-point lead in the third game at 26-16 before the Braves made a late push, pulling to within three points at 26-23. The teams traded points until Wichita State’s Lindsey Eckenrode and Stephanie Tokarz had back-to-back to kills to close out a 30-25 victory and the match for the Shockers. Seniors Amber DeBroux (five kills) and Kelly Niemeyer (four kills) combined for nine of the Braves 15 game-three kills.
Goncher led the Braves with a career-best 10 kills and added a team-high six block assists in the loss. Senior Jennifer Bohan helped pace Bradley’s defensive efforts with 18 digs, while sophomore setter Sam Black had 26 assists and 13 digs for her eighth double-double of the season. DeBroux finished with nine kills and is two kills short of moving into 18th on Bradley’s career kills list.
Sara Lungren and Eckenrode tied for match-high honors with 12 kills each to lead Wichita State offensively. Lungren added 18 kills and three block assists as she and Abby Harsh (39 assists, 13 digs) both finished with double-doubles. The Shockers hit .228 as a team and limited the Braves to a .132 hitting percentage.
Bradley closes out a three-match homestand Saturday against Missouri State at 7 p.m. at Robertson Memorial Field House.
