I just asked the same about them. Morgan Beck needs to go back on the OH or RS either one.

Cal really doesn't have any good wins or good losses; but a few bad wins and bad losses. Not sure about top 10?

No. 8 Cal Volleyball Topped By Oregon, 3-1Golden Bears fall to 14-5 over and 3-5 in the Pac-10. Oct. 19, 2006 BERKELEY, CALIF. - The No. 8-ranked California volleyball team saw a couple of streaks come to an end as the Golden Bears fell to Oregon, 3-1 (30-28, 13-30, 35-33, 30-25), Thursday night at Haas Pavilion. The Golden Bears have now lost four matches in a row, dropping to 14-5 overall and 3-5 in the Pac-10. The Ducks improved to 15-3 overall and 5-3 in conference play. Despite junior Angie Pressey's 17 kills and 15 kills apiece from sophomore Morgan Beck and freshman Hana Cutura, Cal's lost to Oregon, which broke a 14-match winning streak over the Ducks, as well as snapping a school-record 13-straight wins at Haas Pavilion. Besides her 17 kills, Pressey added 17 digs. Cal senior setter Samantha Carter had a match-high four service aces and 55 assists, while senior libero Jillian Davis had a season-high 28 digs. Beck finished with a career-high eight total blocks as well. Oregon was led by Neticia Enesi's 13 kills, and 12 kills each from Sonja Newcombe and Mira Djuric. It was the Ducks' first victory over the Bears since Nov. 15, 1998 (3-1 at Cal's Recreational Sports Facility). The last home loss for Cal was 3-2 to Oregon State on Oct. 27 of last season. Oregon was able to rally at the end of games one, three and four. In game one, a setting error by the Duck's Nevena Djordjevic allowed Cal to tie the contest, 27-27, but a hitting error by Cutura and a kill by Kristen Bitter gave UO a 29-27 advantage. A Beck kill got the Bears to 29-28, but Bitter finished off game one with another kill for the 30-28 win. Cal was able to dominate game two, 30-13, hitting .536 as a team (16k, 1e, 28att) and registering two solo blocks and 10 blocks total. However, Oregon came back and was able to pull out an intense third game victory. Block assists by Pressey and Beck gave the Bears a 33-32 advantage, but kills by Bitter and Newcombe, and a hitting error by Beck finished Cal, 35-33. It was more of the same in game four for the Bears as they were close, but could not stop the Ducks. After trailing the entire fourth game, a Pressey kill finally tied the contest at 19-19. That was as close as Cal could get as UO outscored the Bears, 11-6, the rest of the way with block assists by Bitter and Newcombe sealing the win, 30-25. The Bears will next try to rebound when they host Oregon State, Friday, Oct. 20, at 7 p.m. at Haas Pavilion. www.cstv.com/sports/w-volley/stories/102006aal.html

The ducks are FOR REAL. I watched them play great against Washington and winning game 1 against them. The rest of the Pac-10 should really look out for this team.

OK - Cal has some stuff to work on. It even sounds like they played better in defeat last week. I thought they had things under control after winning game 2. I think many of the observations are pretty astute. Morgan Beck would be better off on the left or right, but she's needed on the middle (more on that).
Oregon played much better than I remember them in past years. Swoboda was literally diving everywhere keeping bullets in play. However - Cal's play was craptastic at the start of the match, although they did have their chances at the end and didn't convert.
They had a meet and greet session with the players and fellow fans after is was over. I got to ask how everyone was doing. Hana Cutura said she felt pretty good, although she still looks tentative compared to the start of the season. Kat Reilly is apparently doing well and practicing, and seems really eager to come off the bench ASAP. Mindi Wiley may not be playing any time soon although she warms up prematch.
I'm hoping that Kat Reilly can come back by the end of the season and shake up the lineup.

any pics? Yeah. However - I got home late after the meet and greet (loaded up on Pepperidge Farm cookies and sodas) and I'm in a bit of a sour mood right now. There were a lot of players' parents there and I guess they weren't in a great mood either. I took plenty after watching Oregon State last year, but they'll just sit in my hard drive for eternity. I saw some of what the players had from their training table, and I'm wondering why they couldn't sneak some of that for us common folk. ;D

Box ScoreOregon brings enough firepower to discombobulate almost any team. I saw the same match as Wallyball, and the Ducks I saw then were pretty strong on serving, attack (especially the tempo of their offense) and blocking -- and yes, Swoboda, the libero. As I recall Washington looked like crap playing them also, but I'm starting to think Oregon had something to do with that. The fact that Cal got 19 blocks and got aced only once is pretty impressive. 35-33 in game 3? Talk about a match that could have gone either way.

That is amazing to me that Cal won ever statistic. More kills, blocks, aces, digs, assists, and hits for a better percentage and still looses

This is a shot-out to my little cousin Oregon's freshmen star Neticia Enesi for an exciting win over the NO. 8 team in the country. Good job ladies...next week you should be ranked probably above NO. 22 hopefully...
Love yah Teesh...even though you won't read this, that's o.k.

That is amazing to me that Cal won ever statistic. More kills, blocks, aces, digs, assists, and hits for a better percentage and still looses G1: 30-28. G2: 13-30. G3: 35-23. Two tight games and one blowout tends to skew the results. Part of the blowout game was that Oregon just had so many errors. I think Cal might have won a battle of total points to 100 battle, but man they couldn't close out on those close games (esp game 3). It really was a matter of who was able to close out the tight games. I think we'll see and adjustment in the rankings that I've been expecting for a while. However - I have faith that they'll find a way to get out of this funk. They need to believe in themselves and absolutely terminate. They need to start by winning one, and I'm hoping that Oregon State is the tonic this team needs.

Hawai'i on the other hand is having that same problem. That is amazing to me that Cal won ever statistic. Cal needs to get healthy. And I think Feller seriously needs to look at his line up and make some decisive changes to fix things. If Cutura regains her form, Cal will be quite dangerous come tournament time. But now it looks like the Bears will tumble out of the top 10 and they'll be lucky if they can reach 5th in the Pac 10.
