Huskies Host USC & UCLA This Week

THIS WEEK: The sixth-ranked Washington volleyball team (17-3, 7-2 Pac-10) kicks off the second half of the Pac-10 season when it hosts conference leader UCLA and third place USC, Oct. 26-27 at Bank of America Arena. The Huskies open the week Thursday vs. USC before facing UCLA Oct. 27 in a match to be televised by FSN. Jim Watson will call the action, while Karch Kiraly and Holly McPeak will provide expert analysis. The match will air locally on a tape-delayed basis on Sat., Oct. 28 at 7 p.m. Live video streaming will be available through the Dawg Channel on GoHuskies.com for the USC match-up, with play-by-play by Benton Strong and color commentary by former UW volleyball player Carolyn Farny. Live stats will be available for both matches on GoHuskies.com.
SCOUTING USC: The USC Women of Troy (18-2, 7-2) lost the battle for first place in the Pac-10 last week when it lost to UCLA in four games. The team is led by Asia Kaczor with 4.66 kills per game, while Diane Copenhagen and Jessica Gysin average 3.00 and 2.99, kpg, respectively. Taylor Carico paces the offense with 12.44 assists per game, while Debora Seilhamer anchors the defense with 6.03 digs per game. USC leads Washington 32-12 in the all-time series.
SCOUTING UCLA: The UCLA Bruins (21-1, 8-1) defeated USC in four games last week in a battle for first place of the Pac-10. Nana Meriwether headlines the Bruins' attack with 4.03 kills per game, 1.76 blocks per game and a .486 hitting percentage, while Katie Carter and Ali Daley average 3.46 and 3.14 kpg, respectively. Nellie Spicer paces the offense with 13.72 assists per game, while Jordan Smith averages 3.87 digs per game. UCLA leads Washington 32-9 in the all-time series and has won the last two matches.

HOME SWEET HOME: Washington has won all nine of its home matches this season, extending its home win streak to 25 matches, which is a program record. The Huskies won all 11 matches they played at Bank of America Arena last season and have not lost at home since dropping a five game heartbreaker to USC on Nov. 26, 2004 (28-30, 24-30, 30-25, 30-22, 15-17). Eight of Washington's nine home wins this season have come via the 3-0 sweep. The Dawgs have lost just one game at home in that time, dropping game one to Oregon on Oct. 6, 30-28.
