Wow, the Big 10 has more schools in the top 10 than the Pac-10. Go figure.

The actual top 25 RPI is identical to the RKPI top 25, except for numbers 17 and 18 being transposed.

Wow, the Big 10 has more schools in the top 10 than the Pac-10. Go figure. Both have the same number of teams in the top 20 and top 25 Both only have one team outside of the top 100, though the Big 12 has all of their teams in the top 100. Conference averages: Big 10: 34.55 Pac 10: 38.70 Big 12: 45.64

Can someone explain simply what the RPI measures? I'm sure you've had this discussion before, but I am new here. Thanks.

Is this the first year they've made the RPI public during the season?

Washington's schedule in the non-conference doesn't help them in this regard. I wonder if they will start scheduling up or continue going to tournaments in out of the way locations.
Also, on an off topic rant, I find SaltNPepper's quote interesting. I think that gets at why the US is capable of leading the world and relegating Al Qaeda to the lunitic fringe. Who wants to move to Syria, North Korea, the West Bank, or Iran (Iraq either for that matter)? Lots of people want to come here, mainly to improve their life or that of their kids (the same reasons why the ancestors of most of the people already living here did) not to cause problems. That is why the fence thing irritates me. Why shouldn't we be more welcoming? Wouldn't that help us win more friends in the world. I do think America's values, when we actually live up to them (and we've done a bad job of doing that in the last five years), are very attractive and our best chance to gain the respect of the world. The US prevailed in the Cold War because, in the end, our system really was better. I just wish American leaders had believed that and avoided all the nasty actions that they took in the third world that contravened those values. Similarly, I hope that we can get a new administration after the 2008 elections that sees the world as a place of opportunity, not threats. Okay, I just felt the need for that rant.

That's my "A bad day at work is better than a good day shopping with my wife." quote that you're taking about, right?

If you followed this without deviation for NCAA seeding purposes, the groupings would look like this:
#1 Nebraska vs. #16 Illinois #8 Florida vs. #9 Wisconsin
#4 Minnesota vs. #13 Washington #5 Stanford vs. #12 San Diego
#2 UCLA vs. #15 Hawaii #7 Texas USC vs. #10 Purdue
#3 Penn State vs. #14 Cal Poly #6 USC Texas vs. #11 LSU
I have noted the schools hosting regionals with bold type. By swapping Texas and USC as the #6 and #7 seeds, you would have a host in each grouping and the geography/travel part of it would not be too bad for most of the teams.

MN as a number 1 seed? That would be rich!
Outside of that, those look like some pretty good regionals.

Is this the first year they've made the RPI public during the season? Here is part of an article that will be in Saturday's print addition of the Omaha World-Herald. It was posted on the website sometime this evening. As you can see, it states that this is the first year RPI information has been released in-season, but there is no further explanation regarding why this is being done. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Published Saturday October 28, 2006 BY CHAD PURCELL WORLD-HERALD BUREAU Huskers tops in RPI Nebraska was No. 1 in the NCAA's volleyball RPI ratings, which were released for the first time on Friday. This season marks the first time the NCAA is revealing its ratings percentage index before the end of the regular season. The final RPI will be used to determine the NCAA tournament's 64-team field at the end of November.Rounding out the top five in the RPI are UCLA, Penn State, Minnesota and Stanford. Other Big 12 schools with high RPI spots include No. 7 Texas, No. 17 Oklahoma, No. 19 Colorado and No. 28 Missouri. From the Missouri Valley Conference, Northern Iowa is No. 41, Missouri State is No. 46 and Creighton is No. 58.
