How many blocks for Ms. Sanders? Nice to know from the article that she's been working very hard on her blocking and is slowly getting results. 1 solo, 1 assist. all her kills tonight have been put down w/authority. no timing problems w/kamanao tonight... and she (and kaufman) just get another block 6-3 HI in g3

Congrats to the Bows ... save for the 2nd game, HI dominated Idaho, and the scores in the other games reflect it. It's just the trademark of this team this year -- they can disappear for stretches at a time during the course of a match.

I was just wondering how IB fared at the game this evening. Who did you cheer for? I sure hope Mrs. IB kept you in the Hawaii fan gear.

Idaho wins Game 2 30 - 25 Hawaii playing like there usual selves. They cant pass. LOL I think because of the ease of the first game, Hawaii just played sloppy in the 2nd game. No killer instinct. I think the first 5 or 6 Idaho points in the 2nd game were from Hawaii hitting into the net and serving errors. It kinda reminded me of the UCLA match. OTOH, the first game reminded me of last year's match against texas. Hawai has got to find a way to maintain that level of play in the playoffs. If they do, they'll be contenders. OTOH, Idaho is not a bad team. It is young and will be good in the years to come. I trhink IB was happy tonight.

They won, which is the main thing. Bring on San Jose! Remember Hawaii fans, only 3 more regular season matches. So go support our team!

I'm really proud of the Vandals tonight in their losing effort. I was in Idaho gear, but was cheering for both teams... which is not easy to do.
Hawaii cannot play like they did in games 2-4 on the road at Idaho and expect to win, though. A little complacent tonight, Idaho cannot start as shell-shocked as they did tonight against other WAC teams, either. This is a very talented YOUNG Idaho team... I've very excited about their future in the WAC. They've played some very good competition this season and took a few ego bruises along the way, but I like their fighting spirit! Go Vandals!

A few more notes, and an article: First, I believe this is Idaho's first game win against Hawai'i, All time. Second, Did I mention I like the Vandals!? It sure was awesome seeing them tonight. Third, I was really pleased to see Erin Curtis and Amanda Bowman playing well tonight. I thought a lot of these two as freshman back when I shagged balls for Idaho and happy to see they've really developed. Good job girls. No. 15 Rainbow Wahine Get Through Idaho In Four Games HONOLULU - The No. 15 University of Hawai`i Rainbow Wahine (16-5, 8-1 WAC) defeated the Idaho Vandals (7-14, 6-3) 30-17, 25-30, 30-19 and 30-22 in front of a crowd of 6,639 at the Stan Sheriff Center Friday. Kanoe Kamana`o had a great match, posting 63 assists, 18 digs and five blocks. Jamie Houston hit .340 with 24 kills and 11 digs while Sarah Mason had 19 kills, 12 digs and four aces. Juliana Sanders hit a blazing .688 with 11 kills and six blocks. Kari Gregory had seven kills and six blocks while Amber Kaufman had eight kills and three blocks. Jayme Lee ended the night with 13 digs while Raeceen Woolford came inn to add 12 digs in the back row. Playing their first match in 10 days, the Rainbow Wahine came out looking anxious and hungry, scoring the first eight points, including a string of three-straight aces, on the serve of Mason. UH let the Vandals within four on a couple occasions, but ran their lead to 12 points at 28-16 before a kill by Houston ended game one, 30-17. Game two was much more of a fight, as there were 15 ties and seven lead changes. But Idaho took control with a 5-1 run in the middle of the game to go ahead 20-17. Hawai`i got back within a point at 23-22, only to see a huge 5-0 run by the Vandals push them to a 28-22 deficit. UH put up three points, but it wasn't enough as Idaho won game two 30-25, taking a game off the Rainbow Wahine for the first time in the program's history. UH got off to another quick start in game three, opening a 7-3 edge early on. Idaho was able to pull back within three points on a couple occasions, but never really posed a threat. Up 26-14, Hawai`i allowed a 5-2 run, pulling it back to 28-19, before kills by Mason and Houston ended game three, 30-19. The Rainbow Wahine were looking to get off to another fast start in game four, scoring five of the first seven points. But the Vandals scratched their way back into it, tying the score at 9-9. From that point, there would be six ties before a quick four-point spurt pushed UH to a 19-15 edge. Hawai`i would end up scoring 11 of the last 16 points as back-to-back kills by Mason ended the game 30-22. UH returns to the court on Sunday, Oct. 29, at 5 p.m. for a conference match vs. San Jose State, at the Stan Sheriff Center.

By the way, I didn't see a single blatantly horrible call tonight. Excellent job by the officials: Eric Asami and Dickson Chun. I think their may have been a couple of blown back-row attack or crossing-the-service line calls, but they were close.

Not a bad match overall. Some very good volleyball on both sides. Like IB said, Idaho is a young team. And their top hitter Larsen was yanked in the second game. I believe she had some shoulder problems that may have been hindering her. Some players really stepped up in her absense. Many times, when the top hitter is yanked from the line up, you can see a team really implode. Idaho didn't do that. The other players stepped up and really tried to take control of the match. They were not afraid of Hawaii and just went after the ball. Being such a young team, this could present a really good challenge in the WAC in the next couple of years. They have 4 seniors on the team, but not a single junior. They will lose some fire power for next year, but can present some tough challenges in 2008, assuming everyone stays.
Hawaii played well enough to win. It was nice to see them get off to a strong start. The offense worked fairly well, even with passing break down. Overall, Hawaii hit for a good percent, however the outsides took a lot of swings compared to the middles and right side. Offensively, Kamanao really showed why she is an AA setter. She moved the ball all around and gave her hitters some really good looks at the ball, even when the passing wasn't very solid. However, at times, the passing broke down completely and Hawaii still doesn't have a terminator to get that side out and get the momentum back. They are still giving up strings of points that keep their opponents in the match.

. Sometimes you just have to shake your head and accept the fact that your team just isn't good this year. I mean sure they still won the match; and by a fairly big amount in games they've won, but that game two was just ug... . If they can't sweep a team like Idaho, something is wrong. The Vandals are a decent team, but not someone who would typically give anyone in the Top 15 trouble. If Hawaii wins out in the WAC, and the WAC Tourney, i'm more than satisfied. It gets a little sketchy if Na Wahine get shafted again for the subregionals, but who cares, if they retain their WAC stronghold again this season, i'm happy! Hope the Wahine all heal by Summer 2007; and Klineman and Otineru sign on!!! Things will get better... (I hope)
