Damn do I wish the Badgers were hosting a regional this year I bet that next year either UW or Minnesota will get one. It'd be great for UW as they hosted AVCA this year and Simpson, Wack, and Reineke will all be seniors next season.

I'm guessing that Simpson or Reineke will get the nod as big ten POW... Simpson averaged 15.2 assists/gm, 1.2 kills/gm (.461%), just under 2 dpg, and about 1.67 blocks per game. Most importantly, the team hit over .300 in both matches... .330 against PSU and .312 against OSU.
Reineke averaged 3.83 kpg, .542%, 1.83bpg, with 3 aces on the weekend.

As bad as Purdue played up in Madison, they ended up getting 61 points. Ohio St held to only 58. Yowza, that is some major stompage.

Impressive weekend for the Badgers.
It will be interesting to see if they can keep playing at that level for the rest of the season.
Especially, on the road.

Is a Wisconsin player a lock for the NPOW? I haven't paid attention to the other conferences this weekend, did anyone else have a substantial weekend?
Didn't UW beat UCLA and USC? Maybe someone from Washington will get it then, but I think Wisconsin's wins are more substantial.

It was a pretty good effort for the Badgers this afternoon and not a good one at all for the Buckeyes. The Badgers played pretty poorly in much of the second game and still won 30-23, which was not a good thing for the Buckeyes. Ohio State made a lot of service and hitting errors, which makes it tough to win. They also didn't pass well. They had some nice blocks, especially against the Badger left side hitters, but that and some nice kills from Szerszen and Jones was about the extent of the good news for the Buckeyes today. Stevens was at OH, Kiel at libero, and Meyer in the middle in the last two games, although Kiel wasn't playing for some of the third game, at least. I think they made the switch because Dozier wasn't effective in the middle and Meyer didn't do much on the outside. Meyer really struggled on the back row attacks, getting mostly errors there, and they didn't have the ball control to run her in the middle much, so she did very little offensively. McCarthy didn't do much, either. The Buckeyes' back row play wasn't very good at all, which made things tough for them. I also don't think you can win the Big Ten with quick but undersized middles. Jones today reminded me of Britenriker last year, some really impressive kills, but she got hit over a lot. McCarthy does help them with her block on the right side.
On the Badger side, they didn't play well for a large stretch of the second game after they got up 11-4. They seemed to lose focus for a while. Simpson was wildly inconsistent. She made some great sets today, especially to Reineke in transition, but the Badgers also probably had more missed communications on sets than in the last five home matches combined. Offensively, Dolgner had a match like the one at Minnesota, getting blocked a lot and hitting a couple of back row attacks out of bounds.
Those things aside, the Badgers did a lot of good things today. They served tough again, avoiding the slew of errors that hurt them against PSU. Reineke dominated offensively and on the block, playing one of the best all around matches I have seen her have. She was money on the back slide and got some kills from the middle as well. Wack had one of the most memorable matches digging that I remember from her. She started the match digging three bombs early and seemed to play up every hard shot that the Buckeyes sent in her direction. Due to UW's defensive scheme, she doesn't tend to make a lot of "wow" plays, but she did today. Her passing was at the normal level as well. Dolgner and Carlini also did an impressive job of digging cross court. It was a strong back row defensive effort all around from the Badgers.
Bladow and Reineke also did a good job of getting touches on Main's dump attempts, taking that option away. Jeffers didn't have many kills, but a couple were impressive, as per usual. She also hit from the left side once and got a kill. That is the first time I have seen that this season, and it is probably a good sign regarding the health of her back. Carlini got blocked twice in a row at one point but got her share of kills again; she has really stepped it up offensively this year. The Badgers did a much better job than OSU in not hitting the ball out of bounds. Most of their errors were on blocks, which is how you want it. It isn't fun to get blocked, sure, but at least you make the other team make a play.
In other news, the Badgers also made several plays that would have made the volleyball hightlight show reel if such a thing existed. Reineke made two tough digs in one rally to keep it going, and they made a couple of pretty amazing pinball plays. All things considered, it was another good effort at home from the Badgers. They didn't let down from the PSU win and were able to do a lot of good things. It is nice to be able to control a match even when your kill leader is having an off day.
