Quietly Ohio University is getting it done again....20-3 with only losses to Wisconsin in 5 in Madison, Washington and San Diego. They are 12-0 in the MAC that has Bowling Green, a top 30-40 team this year. This is a fun team to watch, they have two freshman starting, Herman and Sytsma who are doing some great things.

Shhh... it is supposed to be a secret... Seriously, though. I thought Ohio was a great team last year, but they haven't proven it with their schedule this year. Its a bit of a pity, since I think they are a solid team, but its hard to tout them when they've really beaten noone.

Were you one of the folks saying that about them last year?

Nyeah, last year I was pleased with Ohio. Pleasantly surprised with their NCAA appearance, as well.

Nyeah, last year I was pleased with Ohio. Pleasantly surprised with their NCAA appearance, as well. At the San Francisco airport on the way to Miami (Florida), I was waiting at a bar and I ended up next to an Ohio grad and his fiancee. I talked to him about a variety of Ohio U sports, but apparently he knew nothing about their VB program.

A very nice team, but I think they have hopes of not just being a great MAC team, but a serious player nationally this year. I have to imagine they are dissapointed that they didn't get San Diego or UW early this season. They will have to wait for December to prove if they are worthy.

I don't think OU is nearly the team they were last year. I base this on NACWAA, where I saw them, and the results since then. They are struggling a lot more beating MAC teams.
The loss to San Diego doesn't look nearly as bad as it did in September, but it's still a very revealing loss.
That being said, to build a top 25 team in the MAC is a major accomplishment in itself. Geoff has done/is doing a great job.
(By the way, I believe they were missing a middle at the NACWAA? Correct? Even so, they had the Badgers beaten in a very VERY ugly match. But they lost.)

I'm also surprised at their lack of dominance in their recent MAC matches. Hopefully, it's just the cumulative effect of playing a lacklustre league schedule and not being really able to get jacked up for any of their opponents. Problem is, they'll have to get ready to go quickly once the NCAAs roll around. They'll probably draw a MAC level opponent in the first round, but after that it'll quickly get tougher. Still, I like their club a lot: excellent ball control combined with a balanced if not super attack. I see them probably making the sweet sixteen but that's about it.

What are the odds they go up against Ohio St again in round 1 or 2? Probably pretty high, I would guess.

ummm...I looked on their site and they are 12-0 and have only lost 5 games total all year in conference. BG is a top 50 RPI team and getting votes I think. WMU beat Northwestern, etc. They have also beaten Santa Barbara in 3 who beat Pepperdine and Wisconsin, only losses to 3 top 15 teams. They also beat Maryland when they had their big OH...they have since beaten Georgia Tech and Florida St I think. Yes, I'm sure they would have liked to beat Wsconsin, same as Penn St! Dang, tough crowd

Ohio was without one of their middles who is starting now the first weekend. Since she is from Madison, that had to suck for her. That probably hurt the Bobcats then, since I thought blocking was definitely their biggest weakness. They had a chance to beat the Badgers, but then Wack started digging people, Reineke started to block, etc., etc. and they ran out of gas. I don't know what a loss at San Diego says about them. I don't think there is much shame in that; USD is looking like a pretty good team. Also, you know BG had to be pumped for their shot at Ohio at home, so that is a match you just want to win, and they did. I think Ohio will give someone trouble in the NCAAs, and I am fine with the result of their match with Wisconsin, no need for the teams to play again. They run a balanced offense and are scrappy, in the real way, not in the "I have to say something good about a bad team" way.

I will have to say that even though it doen't look it, the mac is getting stronger. I saw them play at toledo. That team might still have something to prove..at least this team is between 17-20 in the rankings. but what do i know ive seen them play once
