what happended to ohio state freshman Heather RoyaL? and where is Meghann Simons? She was no where to be seen at the Wisconsin game? Did they quit the team?
Also is Wisconsin going to sign another middle for next year? Is there anybody left worth signing? I sware I saw Nyla Ware at a Badger game a few weeks ago, or did she sign with someone already. The Badgers are going to be thin at the middle popsition next year. Dykstra still looks a bit lost on the floor and will really have to imporve to have an impact next year. She looks good hitting in warm-ups, but when inserted in the game she looks a bit lost when it comes to her postion on blocking, she seems to run into the player who is setting the block quite a bit. I was hoping that Pete Waite may look overseas for recruiting a middle, as the recruiting wars are getting tougher in the midwest.
Anby feedback is welcome....

I agree with you. It looks like the middle position could pose a problem for the Badgers next year, unless Dykstra makes significant improvement. She puts up a monstrous wall, but her footwork still isn't there. I'm continually amazed how some players improve from year to year, and I'm hoping the same from Dykstra. Another possibiltiy would be to put Jeffers back in the middle to team with Reineke.
The Badgers have a 6'5" recruit coming in 2008 from somewhere in Illinois, but by then Reineke will be gone as well. It looks like they'll be solid at the outside, setting, and back row positions for a few years with the talent headed their way and the young talent already there. But middle might be an adventure.

maya Carroll could play if needed. She looks very fit and quick and has been in the system for three years, Salow could also slide in if needed, but having been trained as an oh the last 2 years she would need to get reacclimated to the middle. Perhaps Pete Waite has something up his sleeve, or the Badgers could get a nice transfer next year. I just hate that we have a bit of a hole in that position for next year. The m2 would really be our only question mark next year.

We just had a thread on Heather, we came to the conclusion that she was a rich spoiled brat who couldn't put up with having to work hard.

I asked Pete Waite if he was getting a third recruit in 2007 and he said no. He said he was using the 3rd scholarship on someone on the current roster who doesn't currently have one - I think it's Amanda Berkley as I know she was a walk on.
That does leave the M2 position up for grabs next year. Dykstra will be the odds on favorite. If she doesn't work out, then I look for Jeffers to move back into the middle and have Salow move to Opposite. I don't think Salow is quick enough to be a good MB. But she would impose a large block against the oppenents strong side hitters.

Heather could not handle the transition from high school to college, so she quit. (A far more PC answer than my last, no? ;D ) Meghan is on the team but hasn't dressed for several weeks. My guess is an injury, but I keep forgetting to inquire. She didn't make the trip? Interesting. She's 6'3 or 6'4 but isn't as athletic as we'd hoped. Go to OSU's website and check her pre-conference blocking stats. I don't think she's been much a factor yet.

I am a bit concerned about that middle position for the Badgers, which is strange because it seemed the Badgers only had middles and converted middles there for a while. Dysktra still looks pretty raw, but you hope that the training the rest of this season and in the spring will get her where she needs to be. I think we do have to remember how little volleyball she has played relative to most players at this level. I don't think she started until sometime in high school, if memory serves. I guess if you do have a project at middle, you want her to be 6'3" with long arms and serious jumping ability, though. I have said all along that people will not be able to hit over her if she is in position. It is just getting her in position. She also has had a few kills this season where she just hit right over people. I am guessing Jeffers is an option if she isn't ready and it is nice to have an experienced walk-on in Carroll. I wonder if they will have Salow train some on the right side this spring so that she could play there if needed. If she doesn't win the starting job at left side next year, that would seem to make sense. I agree that the second middle spot is the area of greatest concern for the Badgers next season at this point. Carlini's injury sucked, since she is a senior and was playing so well, but DuPont's performance when she was out generates some optimism for the future.

I think DuPont's performances this year against good competition (@ Penn State) tell us that she will be the starting OH next year replacing Carlini.
Salow has great height and would put up a really good block on the right side. Interesting...
