Drat. I was hoping Texas would lose so that Wisconsin would move ahead of them in the polls, despite that whole thing back in August that I am trying to forget. Fortunately, the Badgers' play since then is helping with that.

Baylor hits .439 that first game and outblocked Texas 17 to 9 for the match. Barnes was 3 kills away from another triple double. This young waco squad could be dangerous on any given night. If they find their consistency from game to game they could beat about anyone. Of course that is a big if...Engle did hit .396 and Hooker .242.

The match was a lot closer than the scores show. Elliot drove me crazy in this match. When things were going wrong for UT in this match, he was just pulling players in and out of the match like crazy. When he put Ruth-Ann in the match she had a nice block and the team starting doing well, then he doesnt play her after the 2nd game. I didn't really understand that.
He was pulling passers, hitters, and never even tried a new setter. Michelle set good during the 4th game and had some good digs, but she was putting Todd and Lauren P. right into the block on her sets during the entire match. She doesn't really watch the blockers when she sets, she just chooses a player to go to. If you have seen Barnes set for Baylor, you notice she is really good at getting her hitters on a single blocker. I think Michelle was left alone about 10 times on the outside to block solo. Also, when Baylor ran the slide it was usually against one blocker.
But this was a fun match to watch if you were a Baylor fan. They played great and looked like they enjoyed doing it. Oh, and Barnes is amazing! She plays like a she is a Junior, and is probably the best setter in the Big 12. If you are a UT fan, this match was a bit of a headache!

Man, Baylor looked like a final four team in game 1. Texas picked it up and Baylor slowly let it slip away. I thought we were going to run the table for awhile. 2nd game BU was up and playing well but UT pulled it out and then that was it for the Bears. Barnes is a tremendous setter. Something I've never seen before to this year is that the Coach signals the offense in from the bench. It looks like complicated hand signals and it's amazing how many times the Bears offense gets 1 on 1 situations. Taylor is a deceptive setter and with the coach they setup a very good offense. Unfortunately our serve recieve goes south sometimes. Anyone ever seen the coach call the offense from the bench? I haven't seen the other teams do it that have come here.

He is actually signaling the offense to run, or just a couple choices for where to serve the ball?

Well most offense decisions are made by the setter. As Barnes gains more experience the coach will not have to signal her on what to do, she will be able to decide those things on her own.
I wish Elliot would work on that with Michelle since he is going to continue to allow her to set. They are going to keep playing down a level, if the hitters are never getting a chance to hit at one blocker. She would always turn with the hitter who was going for the slide and everyone knew where the ball was going. Which led UT in getting blocked the whole match.
Baylor is a good team and they are very young. I do not know if they will be able to get into the tourney, but they will for sure be better than a lot of the teams that will be in it.

Looks like Baylor completely dominated Texas in the middle and on the slide. Jenn Todd barely hit above zero and Paolini hit negative. Leticia Armstrong wasn't even on the travel roster. Weird how this team essentially lost both starting middles from last year.

He is actually signaling the offense to run, or just a couple choices for where to serve the ball? Every time they setup for serve receive he signals an offensive play. He also signals for the serve but obviously when the Bears are serving. Never saw this before. I see the other team try to watch the signals to but they must not be able to understand them because there is so many 1 on 1's when the pass is good. This is kinda like watching a football game and the signals come from the bench. Maybe the sport will start heading this way if they keep improving.. haven't seen anyone else do it though.

Bearwatch is funny. Just because there was alot of single blocks doesnt mean that signals were given. Maybe Taylor Barnes is just that good to fool the block often. I've seen coach barnes give signals at times but I think it's for serving and defensive schemes.
