SEC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK Elyse Cusack - Florida, L/DS, 5-9
* Cusack tallied 71 digs in Florida's wins at No. 11 LSU and at Arkansas * She averaged 8.88 digs per game (her season average is 5.66) * She shattered the Florida record for digs in a match, tallying 46 against LSU (the previous record was 34, which she surpassed in the third game of the four-game match) * Her 46 digs against LSU is the SEC best for digs in a match and for digs in a four-game match * Broke the Florida record for most digs in a season by a freshman and is on pace to better the SEC record for digs per game (5.12)

I was just about to post the article of this. I'm glad, she deserved it. There would've been some serious explaining to do if she didn't get it. Of course, I think Amber was robbed of Offensive POW.

Cusack had an amazing week. She is an unbelievable libero. Not only is she quick but she has great instincts and is so much fun to watch on the floor. It doesn't hurt that the Gator's front line is so good at funneling her the ball either. Definitely a treat to watch her in action.
I don't know that McCray necessarily got robbed. They have a tough call in the SEC office each week I am sure because I would be willing to bet that every week there are a couple of worthy players who could be selected. Jaclyn Toohey certainly helped Ole Miss achieve some things that program has not seen in decades. Her raw numbers based on efficiency were better than McCray's as well. I think McCray certainly was a worthy player for the award, but I don't think the SEC necessarily got it wrong by giving it to Toohey.

Cusack has that position nailed down for the next four years, and it looks as though Davis and Diaz will simply be marginalized in "barely there" roles.

Davis is a former walk on and senior and Diaz is a walk on. Neither was ever expecting to start at libero, esp. when Cusack was recruited to be the libero and given a scholarship.
As for Elyse's performance, it's even more amazing when you consider Elyse plays with a partially torn acl, and is still barely practicing as she tries to rest as much as possible because of the stress fracture in her foot.
As for Amber, maybe robbed was a poor choice of words. I certainly thought she was deserving, esp. considering the competition she faced. Toohey certainly had a deserving week as well.

I agree Elyse would be the key to a run at the NCAAs.
Florida had always strong attackers and great setters, but not so great liberos, that kept them from the NCAA crown.
With Elyse, that may change.
