· Texas remained at No. 8 in the latest CSTV/AVCA poll, released Monday, Nov. 6 ... UT has been ranked in the Top 10 of the poll in 9-of-10 weeks this season ... The Longhorns began the 2006 campaign ranked 8th in the preseason poll, marking the team's highest preseason ranking since 1998 (9) ... Texas earned its highest ranking in the poll Sept. 11 when it was voted No. 5, staying there for two weeks.
· Freshman outside hitter Ashley Engle was named Big 12 Conference Player of the Week, Nov. 6 after posting a 5.00 kills per game average and 4.29 digs per game mark in the Horns' wins over Kansas and Baylor last week ... The award is the first of Engle's career and marks the third consecutive week a Texas player has been named conference player of the week ... Against Baylor, Engle posted 27 kills on 48 attempts to lead Texas to a 3-1 comeback victory ... In the match she hit at a .396 clip and totaled 17 digs ... In the Horns' win over Kansas, Engle registered eight kills, recorded a team-high 13 digs, posted five total blocks and tallied two service aces ... For the week, she connected for 35 kills on 72 swings, while totaling 30 digs, six total blocks, three service aces and three assists.
· The Longhorns notched their season-high fifth consecutive win, Saturday, defeating Baylor, 3-1 (20-30, 30-24, 30-20, 30-21), for their ninth victory in their last 10 contests. ...Ashley Engle led the Horns with a career-high 27 kills on .396 hitting, while recording her 12th double-double of the season with 17 digs ... Michelle Moriarty added 62 assists and 11 digs and Destinee Hooker and Jennifer Todd registered 14 and 12 kills, respectively.
· The Big 12 Conference named Destinee Hooker its co-player of the week Oct. 30 for the second straight week ... Hooker led UT to a pair of Big 12 road victories for the week, posting 15 kills on .312 hitting in the Horns' 3-1 win over Texas Tech and 14 kills on .520 hitting to drop Colorado, 3-0 ... The previous week (Oct. 23) Hooker was named POW, after totaling 50 kills against No. 1 Nebraska and No. 23 Oklahoma.
Aggies, No. 8 Longhorns to meet in State Farm Lone Star Showdown

COLLEGE STATION, Texas- Texas A&M and No. 8 Texas are set to battle in a nationally televised edition of the State Farm Lone Star Showdown Wednesday in Austin. First serve is at 7 p.m. at Gregory Gym. (A complete release in pdf format is available at AggieAthletics.com.)

A&M, which has dropped the last four matches against the rival Longhorns, is 11-12 overall and 4-11 in the Big 12 after sweeping Kansas State in Manhattan on Saturday. The win ended A&M’s three-match losing skid and gave the Aggies their first-ever win in 11 trips to Manhattan.
Texas is 17-5 overall and in second place in the Big 12 with a 12-3 mark. The Longhorns are riding a five match winning streak after knocking off Baylor, 3-1, Saturday in Waco.
Senior middle blocker Christi Hahn leads the Aggies and ranks fourth in the Big 12 with a .364 hitting percentage for the full season. She also leads the team with 4.12 points per game is second on the squad with 3.31 kills per game.
Freshman outside hitter Mary Batis leads A&M with 3.66 kills and is second on the team with 3.24 digs and 4.02 points per game. Freshman Sarah Ammerman, who starts opposite of Batis and led the Aggies with 17 kills and a career-high .324 hitting percentage against Kansas State, is averaging 3.12 kills, 2.29 digs and 3.61 points per game.
Junior middle blocker Kelly Stanton is averaging a team-leading 1.30 blocks per game, and freshman libero Zanny Castillo is the leader in digs with 3.33 per game.
Junior setter Michelle Moriarty directs the Texas offense and leads the Big 12 with 13.98 assists per game in conference matches. Her primary targets are freshmen Ashley Engle, who was named Big 12 Player of the Week on Monday, and Destinee Hooker. Engle is averaging 4.19 kills and Hooker is averaging 3.55 kills per game while hitting at a .294 clip.

Texas leads the series 54-22 in all-matches since 1976, but the Longhorns hold a narrow 11-10 lead in Big 12 matches only.
Texas, 28-4 against A&M in Austin, extended its winning streak to four against the Aggies after defeating A&M, 30-23, 23-30, 30-22, 30-17, at G. Rollie White Coliseum on Oct. 13. A&M’s most recent victory against the Longhorns was Oct. 16, 2004, in College Station as the 20th-ranked Aggies stunned No. 9 Texas, 32-34, 30-24, 30-27, 30-21.
