The race for the #1 seed just got interesting. I'm sure more than 1 PAC 10 school is dancing on the west coast. I was at the game and Penn State couldn't pass gas if they tried. They have a ton of work to do if they think they are a Championship team.

If you can't pass you are dead. PSU showed its skin and weakness. Tough serving beat them. I was at the match and PSU was so many times out of system and forced to set high that any defense can eat you up. I think they need to do soemthing with Hodges......she cranks on the ball, but her ball control is ugggggg. ESTRELLA

Even tho I like Penn State, I'm happy about this result. Maybe it'll finally wake Russ up to his prioritizing big hitters and blockers over decent ball control. Hodge should not be shouldering a huge load of the passing responsibilities. Price and Holehouse should be passing every single ball.

I thought we were supposed to support Russ's commitment to developing Hodge instead of using subs to keep her a hitter only?

So many teams are just not passing well this season. Hawaii earlier in the season had some passing problems, they are getting better. I hope that the Nittany Lions work on their ballhandling, before the postseason rolls along.

I really wasn't expecting that. I guess it proves that if you can't pass, you can't win, even if you do have two very good left side hitters. Meyer can be really good if she comes to play. Nice recovery for an OSU team that didn't look very good at all in their trip to Minnesota and Wisconsin. I think we can say they are in the NCAAs for sure now, if that was in doubt. I wonder how far PSU will fall in the polls. Probably below all the Pac 10 teams. I still don't see them losing again, especially after this whupping. They will probably be ready to play from here on out. Minnesota must really be kicking themselves now for losing at Michigan.

Bucky, had Meyer hit OH all season except before recently moved back to the middle? Just wondering if that is why some of this turn around has happened at OSU.

I can't believe the outcome of that match. Was anyone actually playing on the Penn State side? Ohio State is good, but probably had a great night. Everything must have been clicking because from watching their matches this season they are very inconsistent. I am surprised to say the least.
Do you think something is going on internally with the Penn State team to cause these two devastating losses in a row?

Well, in all fairness, the losses weren't "in a row."
They're young. Freshman setter, loads of pressure on Hodge, Fawcett's still only a soph even though everyone thinks of her as an upperclasswoman, etc, etc..... throw in "working on chemistry," blah blah, and I think with two losses on the season, maybe it's what they need. Or... go back to the 6-2 and bring back Walters!

I think Meyer is now playing in the middle for the Buckeyes, with Stevens and Szerszen on the left side and Kiel maybe at libero. They made the switch with Meyer going to the middle and Stevens to outside in the middle of the Wisconsin match, although I think they used that lineup in at least one previous match. Meyer had been at left side for most of the season before that, though. I think this is OSU's best lineup, and I had wondered why they hadn't gone to it earlier in the year. They must be passing and defending better as well, because they were weak in those areas against the Badgers and what I saw of their televised match at Minnesota. I still think they are a bit undersized on the block, another reason why this result surprised me so much. I thought they could maybe score on PSU, but I didn't expect them to be able to shut down the Lions, but they did. I did think Meyer would have to have a big match for OSU to win, and she delivered. It is surprising that PSU wasn't able to put up more of a fight, especially after how they demolished Purdue and IU last weekend.

I think this match just reaffirms how difficult it is week in and week out to play well every match. It just isn't going to happen. It is always tough on the road in the 4th month of the season in conference play. Doesn't matter whether it's the Pac-10, the Big Ten or the Lazy Susan Conference. If you don't play well and your opponent does, you can get beat - or you can look pretty average in a win.

I hope I'm not repetetive, but PSU is an avg passing team. Out of system gets to them. They are tall, leap well and have depth, but when you can't pass match is over. To me this is not a surprise. Hodge did not handle the ball well and OSU made her do it. Lots of talent but does not seem yet to show the drive to do batter passing and playing defense like a Meyer from OSU does. Another key point was having Meyer in the middle....this kid can play! ESTRELLA
