Crap now I have to re-do my Final Four prediction chart. With Magee and Armstrong I had Texas as almost a sure bet. When Magee went out I still felt they had a strong chance. Then with Acevedo unable to play front row anymore and Kisner with a thigh injury, I moved them to "dark horse but no surprise". Now without Armstrong or Magee and with a reduced Acevedo, they could be knocked out as early as the third round. Paolini and Feist still have a long way to go. Moriarty doesn't seem to connect very well with either one yet. What is the deal with Acevedo? Is Jerrit keeping her out of the front row to rest her legs or is Christian going to play front row for her all the time now? Christian still has some things to work out with her armswing, but I like how she is approaching the ball more aggresively. She is also probably our best blocker and we all know Texas is lacking in that department. How long has she not played front row? She was a really strong player last season but this year, during the games I saw, she has looked fairly catatonic. She was one of the few players returning to the Big 12 who I thought would make a much bigger impact.

Her last decent offensive match was against Nebraska where she hit .200 (which isn't AA by any means, but great, because she never seems to do well against the Huskers)Elliot/Moriarty will let her get a few attack attempts now but nothing like earlier this season or last season. I thought with the addition of Engle, Acevedo would see her hitting % rise to around .300 but for some reason it has decreased. I think that she has to be in some type of pain as opposed to going through a slump but I am not certain. The key to the remainder of this season could very well be to how Christian will perform down the stretch.

I hear there is much more to this story than what the release say's. Her departure is related to other things.

I hear Laura Bush sold weed in college. I hear Hillary snorted five thousand dollars of coke off Gennifer Flowers' stomach in 1987. I hear the CIA has a code that will activate the camera on your cell phone so they can watch you while you sleep. I hear there's a forum called www.volleytalk.net that has highly accurate inside information on the personal lives of college athletes.

11/9/06 Longhorn sidelined, middle blocker 'done' for medical reasons By Brad Gray For the second time this year, injuries ended the season for Texas' middle blocker. Wednesday night it was revealed that junior All-American middle blocker Leticia Armstrong would not play for the rest of the season due to an unspecified medical condition. "She's on medical hardship this year for health reasons," head coach Jerritt Elliott said. "She's done." Armstrong wasn't the first major loss for the Longhorns. On August 3, Texas' other All-American middle blocker Brandy Magee ended her senior season, when she tore her anterior cruciate ligament in the match against Wisconsin. Armstrong had not been on the court nearly as much as last season, when she had been voted All-American. Still, the loss of her experience puts a lot of pressure on the remaining players. "It's definitely frustrating," said setter Michelle Moriarty. "She had been a really big part of the team, and we all love her to death. She just told us to keep winning." Winning might be a bit harder now. Texas' remaining middle blockers, Jennifer Todd and Lauren Paolini, will have to take on all the duties at the net and learn quickly in order to fill the role of the two missing All-Americans. "We're fortunate, because Lauren and Jennifer are playing so well right now," Elliott said. "We've got so much talent that we're still playing at a good clip, and we haven't missed a beat." Texas' blocking has been shaky this year at times. On numerous occasions, Texas has beaten lower-ranked, less-talented teams in every statistical category except blocking. The next few weeks will determine if the duo of Todd and Paolini can step up in time for the NCAA tournament, which begins Nov. 30. Moriarty still had confidence in Texas' ability to recover, even with its team decimated at the middle blocker position. "You never want to lose a teammate, but it's something a lot of teams have to deal with, and I think we can handle it," Moriarty said. www.dailytexanonline.com/news/2006/11/09/

I just heard from people around the program, she was unhappy and left. People who have been posting have mentioned she didn't seem injured to that degree, and also said she hasn't looked as happy. Not trying to start anything, just what I heard from people close to the team she left school. I also noticed there were no comments from her in the release, which strikes me as odd, and Jerrit's comments seem abrupt.

Yes, Elliott was "abrupt" he is also respecting the privacy of the person who is also the athlete... seems to be the decent thing to do.

That's cool.
In related news, when is paolini going to learn to stick her arm UP to swing instead of sideways? Does she ever not tip? At 6.5 she should have no fear of the block.

I definately respect the privacy issue, my point is there was nothing to the affect of "she is a great kid, and we heartbroken for her"etc........ A kind word isn't protected by HIPA, is it?

From texassports.com, the last match Armstrong played in was @ Colorado, where she had 3 kills and 4 blocks on October 28. I don't get the career ending thing - although I do wish her the best, (she's from the wonderful state of Indiana), the whole situation seems a little odd. Who knows, maybe the injury causes too much pain to play through.
