Game scores were 30-13, 30-11, 30-28. The 49ers improved to 19-5, 9-2 Big West, while the Highlanders fell to 2-23, 0-12 Big West. The victory also put head coach Brian Gimmillaro just three wins shy of the 600-mark for his career at LBSU. Alexis Crimes paced the 49ers with 14 kills. Nicole Vargas had 39 assists and directed the 49er offense to a .351 hitting clip. Ashley Halperin led UC Riverside with 11 kills in the losing effort. LBSU jumped out to an early lead in the match and never looked back as they defeated the Highlanders 30-13 in game one. The 49ers used a .552 attack percentage to its advantage for the 17-point victory. Long Beach led 13-6 after a kill by Dyanne Lawlor and proceeded to go on a 17-7 run the rest of the way, finishing the game on a Mariko Crum kill. It was all LBSU in the second frame as the 49ers defeated the Highlanders 30-11. LB used an 11-0 run to build a 23-10 lead, capped by a block from Lawlor. A service ace by Cynthia Buggs ended game two. UC Riverside put up a fight in game three but the 49ers held on for a 30-28 victory. The 49ers return to the Walter Pyramid tomorrow night when they face CS Fullerton at 7 pm.

Thanks for the update. I finally got the call. I'm glad this young team put up a fight in game 3. Lots of blocks and they played with heart in game 3 from what I heard. Thanks again.

Well - I was going to post the recap, but you beat me to the punch.
However - I saw UCR's Brittney Murrey play once in HS - setting/hitting out of a 6-2. I think she was her league's MVP that year. Must be tough for her with UCR struggling. Nice to see that they kept game 3 close.
