But we're not talking about "at that point." Than what point in time did you think stanford had too much respect

If they send a Pac-10 team to Gainesville, I hope it's the Bruins. I think the Bruins have proved that they are most dangerous in the tourney. I don't know though, this team is starting to let me down. I think they have good potentials, we'll see what happens when they face USC. But that may not be enough to tell us how good they are, since after that they just face the Oregon schools, which UCLA should be favored to win.

blastingsand, I was referring to IB's point about Florida and UCLA. I have a headache. Anyhow, I think the Pac10 deserves the rankings -- most of them. I just don't think the gap is as big as some would believe. We shall see.

To be quite honest... I have a hard time ranking any of the teams the past few years in the top ten. I'd rather leave "this spot vacant until someone steps up and plays some decent stinking volleyball!" in the spot.
I think the issue is that there are no more dominant teams, more teams have fell down a few steps on the ladder since 3-years ago.

It's also true that we all read too much into one match. Teams have off nights. The GREAT teams may not, but I think we can all agree that USC was probably the last great team -- and that was three years ago?
Maybe I'm not giving 2005 UW enough credit.

USC was a great team among greats. Florida, Stanford, Hawaii were all championship caliber teams that would dominate in today's game.
If the volleyball trend is more parity and fewer great teams... I might switch hobbies.

The 05 UDubb team was really really good. They only had one loss which was against the Bruins. But I think the parity of college sports can deceive us a lot more nowadays. and yes if UCLA finishes 4th in the pac10 (which they might by the look of things) you will be right. However, don't know if you can say that you never had doubts about it.

With all due respect to U Dub (playing with Sanja grandmasevic), USC's team of 2002, 2003 was the last great team.

I agree that the top teams this year aren't as strong as in years past, but that does make things more interesting than waiting for Washington-Nebraska last year or USC-anyone in 2002-03.
I know that you have to get some digs in against Wisconsin, but I don't think you have a great case that they are overrated. The UCSB loss was bad, sure, but the other losses were all to ranked teams, and they have six wins over ranked teams to balance those out. I think they are where they belong in the poll right now, because I think only Minnesota might have some case to be ahead of them. LSU doesn't have great wins other than the one over Minnesota, Cal still hasn't beaten a ranked team, Hawaii hasn't beaten a ranked team that they haven't also lost to, if memory serves, and the Badgers beat Purdue and Oklahoma.

UW 05 would've lost to USC, Stanford, Florida and Hawaii of 2002/2003. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

I think you might be underestimating last year's Washington team. They might not have been quite as good as those USC teams, but they didn't have many weaknesses. Maybe that Hagerty could be error prone? They had five hitters who could put the ball away, a solid block, a good libero, and a very strong setter. That is a pretty good team, in my estimation.

UW beats Hawaii. Don't know about Florida -- and I don't think either team fits the definition of great. (And Florida was better than Hawaii.)
